Player coming in from Atlanta Braves

Feb 6, 2014, 9:03 PM

Can someone explain the player who signed with the Braves four years ago and in now coming to Clemson to play football? I believe Dabo said he is 22 years old.

He's Kurt Fleming. He's 6' 0 235 Lbs and he runs a 4.47. He is a complete monster. My source told me is chiseled and fast as lightening

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

He is a walk on. The Braves are paying his tuition per his contract is my understanding.

Feb 6, 2014, 9:16 PM

He will have 4 years of eligibility as any freshman. It is similar to Chris Weinke' s FSU arrangement

Unfortunately he will not have any baseball eligibility***

If he gets to play right away ...

Feb 6, 2014, 9:22 PM

...Georgia is gonna get a nasty little surprise first time he totes the ball.

He is gonna be a factor!

Feb 6, 2014, 9:19 PM

This was a great pickup for us.

What position does he play ?

Running back. He only has (high school) Jr film due to an injury suffered before his Sr season. He looked like a beast back then. I can not wait to see what he looks like in the spring game.

I think he will be a lead blocking back primarily. We need one!!

Re: He is gonna be a factor!

Feb 6, 2014, 10:02 PM

Actually we do not run a lot of sets where we use a lead blocker. At least we didn't last season. I can remember back in the day seeing Alex Pearson level some FSU LBers, but those days are long gone.

You just don't see that type of style here or anywhere to be honest. You take away another threat down field or in the flats for a block when the ball should be out of qbs hands anyways.

Re: We will use him in a similar role to Auburns blocking

Feb 6, 2014, 10:08 PM

Back. Watch him in film. Our running game will be a little different next year with these bigger backs, smaller QB and someone like him clearing a lane.

Re: We will use him in a similar role to Auburns blocking

Feb 6, 2014, 10:14 PM

Deshauan Watson and Chad Kelly were not brought in as small QBs (which I am also going to have to disagree with you on) to just hand the ball off.

Recruiting pitch to Deshaun......Hey Deshaun we know you are one of the most prolific runners as a QB in Georgia High School history so we think we are just going to turn you into Tom Brady.

Re: We will use him in a similar role to Auburns blocking

He is currently 195 lbs!!! As he gets bigger his running will increase. He will not be utilized the same way Boyd was. He will run but more zone read running. Boyd ran a different style than you will see any of our QBs run next year. Say what you want son but just watch.

Re: We will use him in a similar role to Auburns blocking

Feb 6, 2014, 10:44 PM [ in reply to Re: We will use him in a similar role to Auburns blocking ]

Blocking, with his size and speed, he will be steam rolling and dragging Lbs by the safety before he can complete his reads. Once this guy get into open field, the smaller dbs will have a problem trying to decide what is the best way to slow down or tackle this BUS or FREIGHT TRAIN. ANOTHER JOHN RIGGINS. Just feed him the ball to keep the interior players honest. They will have to respect a player of this size who has that kind of speed. Once he gets going or into open field, you got your hands full.

Lead blocking back?

Feb 6, 2014, 10:01 PM

Are we switching to I formation under Morris?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Lead blocking back?

Feb 6, 2014, 10:05 PM

At times we will. We will run the ball more next year. Gallman and Dye most likely. Many plays will utilize a lead blocking back. We won't have a big strong QB running the ball into the endzone. You can bet we will bring back some smash mouth running.

Re: Lead blocking back?

Feb 6, 2014, 10:11 PM

You done lost yo mind tigrtom. If we run the ball it will be within the same spread system. It will not be 1985 I form pro set.

Did I say I formation pro set? You speaking for me?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I recall seeing a lead blocker

Feb 6, 2014, 10:14 PM

At least a few times this season. Expect to see more like the above poster stated.

Re: I recall seeing a lead blocker

Your right. You did see it a few times. Out of a thousand snaps you saw it 3 times.

He will play some H Back primarily in a blocking role. I assume you have seen that before?
