I swore that I would no longer drink cheap beer (Stroh's, Milwaukees Best, Schafer, Natty Bo, and Red White and Blue).
Busch beer falls in that category IMO.

college student. I made that same promise to myself. I only drink "good" beer now. Newcastle and St. Arnold's Summer Pils are my two faves(unfortunately the summer pils is only found in texas and parts of louisiana)

Brioso is a no brainer for dinnerl, not too expensive and delicious. Or the bbq/oyster bar place on the corner by subway is good too, just can't think of the name.

In my opinion Macs is overrated. More about memories than good food. Sardis is good. BGR is good if you are downtown and want a burger.

If you're looking...

for a good burger, I personally believe that the best one in Clemson is at Loose Change downtown. It's not the fastest place, but their burger and fries are worth the wait. You can't go wrong with Sardi's or Brioso either. I've heard Esso's meat and three is really good for lunch on weekdays. They have a good menu outside of that as well.

It really depends on what you want. Do you want some vegetables? Do you like BBQ? Do you want to eat healthy? Do you want to get a feel for what it will be like when he's in school?
It's a chain, but Mellow Mushroom does make a mean Pizza.

Sardis is very good. It is very close and right across from Bi-Lo. IMHO its the best BBQ, better than Smoking Pig. It is also a LOT closer and the ambiance is all Clemson. All orange on the inside with nothing but Clemson memorabilia everywhere. Its cheap too. A you can get a half rack of ribs with slaw, fries, beans, and a drink for $10. They have mustard bbq sauce too. Best place in Clemson.
The other great place is SKINS. Best hot dogs in the world. Its on anderson highway (hwy 93 I think?) in the small plaza next to Monteray. You dont know hot dogs if you havent eaten skins.
Pot Belly Deli has great sandwiches. Its across from Sonic and behind the BBT. Great sandwiches, two people can eat for about $20 or so.
Closer downtown is TD's at the corner of downtown, good bar and grill. Friars Tavern is great too, as well as the Esso Clubs. Those are bars though, but still good to eat at during the day.
You could probably get into a dining hall too, but from the sounds of things you're trying to help him join Clemson not run away from it. The student union also has a Chillis in it.

Lunch... Sardis, Mac's, Paw's Diner, Super Taco, Goober's, Peppinos
Dinner... Blue Heron, Calhoun Corners, Pixie & Bills all very good, not terribly expensive, but you probably don't want to walk in in a wife beater and jorts.
If you want to venture out Circle M BBQ on Liberty-Anderson hwy also has great BBQ as well as Smoking Pig.

Calhoun Corners has been good over the years. I worked there as a Jr back in 1984. Upscale but good. Pixie & Bills is owned by same group, good also. Esso Club for meat + 3 + tea is good lunch bet. Good luck, GO TIGERS!

Super taco out on 93 for Mexican. Tokyo on hwy 123 for Japanese/sushi are a couple of my favorites that I havn't seen mentioned. I think the Denny's is popular with the Syracuse basketball coach.
