Common occurrence out here on the West coast in the summer. I love the orange moon but hate the air quality. Wear a respirator.

There was a much bigger moon (one night) when I lived in AL back 5 years ago than what I am looking at tonight in SC.

Technically this one is bigger.
The moon may have appeared bigger 5 years ago for you because of the way light is bent when it comes though our atmosphere but I can guarantee you it was not closer to the earth than the moon is now.

I think I heard on the news that the moon is closer than it has been in 78 years.
As for the orange appearance....it is really pretty. But I would love for the smoke from these fires to clear up soon. I am having a hard time with it.
