OT - Golf courses in Charleston area

Jul 1, 2013, 10:48 AM

Heading to Seabrook in a couple of weeks. I'll have 2 kids in tow - both of which are decent golfers. Any suggestions for good (not too expensive) public courses in the Seabrook / Charleston area?

I live in the area and play golf about once a week. I would look at Dunes West or Charleston National right now. Stono Ferry is good but they just plugged so it will need a few weeks to get up to speed. Look online at clickit golf or golfnow.com for some course specials. Chas Nat may be a hike but it really is a nice course that is reasonable and very scenic.

Charleston National has my vote

Good course, just don't let you kid get eaten by a gator.

Would like to keep it in the $40-$50 range, unless there is a discont for junior golfers, similar to a lot of the courses at Myrtle Beach...

What is your threshhold for "not too expensive"

Jul 1, 2013, 10:56 AM

It is hard to get much lower than $35 during the week with a cart. Seems like most are in the $40s.

Also, it seems like many courses have recently aerated their greens.

Try the Charleston Municipal on James Island right near the stono river. Very affordable, only 10$ for as many holes as you can play after 4pm.

Charleston Muni? Are you kidding? That is a walking course for beginners only. Try 5+ hours a round.

Stono Ferry and Chas National would be my picks. Chas National is better, but for you Stono Ferry is much closer.

Stono is maerating this week, Chas Nat did it 3-4 weeks ago and we have had so much rain they spruced up in no time. Gonna be tough to find anything not in the $45 or up range unless you look online or find a coupon

Try Wescott Plantation off of Dorchester Road. 3 nines and shouldn't be that expensive. Chas. National and Patriots Point are good choices but not sure about the price. Also, Wescott is easy to walk if you want to.
