Northwestern's restrictions on football players unlawful

Just what we need in College football - bureaucratic Federal Government involvement. Interesting that this particular issue was not brought up by an athlete but a non-affiliated lawyer in California. Glad this only applies to private schools and not public Universities.

Lord help us if we ever get to the point where the Feds start imposing regulations into football as it would be the death of the sport. I can see it now - no contact allowed because it would violate some OSHA regulation.

So Clemson was voluntary

I remember them talking about no social media during Spring/Summer training. Was this player imposed?

My understanding is that our ban on social media has always been player imposed. I think it is something some senior players started several years ago to keep the team focused and has just been picked up by each successive team ever since.

The northwestern case of being classified as employees was overturned so I don't see how the NLRB has any jurisdiction in this.

maintain their first-amendment protections. What's next? Protecting our right to keep and bear arms?

No problem. You can tweet all you want, but players that

tweet do not play. Just like John Wooden told Bill Walton 40 years ago about Walton's expressed desire to wear a beard.....Wooden agreed that Walton had the right to wear it, but Wooden also had the right to determine who played in the games.
