They also tend to protect witnesses until that time comes, and in the case of the whistleblower, they clearly need to protect him/her from the likes of Trump and his minions.
Particularly since he throws around the "treason" word so loosely.

When you say 'I heard this,' and don't even say who said it folks tend to ignore you. I'm excited to find out what the first hand whistleblower made of a conversation which has become a publicized transcript.

We know this isn't how the Trump admin works. He values loyalty over truth and will seek to punish those who oppose him.
He must come forward and name sources from whom he heard the rumors.
No, he mustn't, and the law states that he doesn't have to. The whistleblower serves to start the investigation. He will be interviewed by members of both parties, who will investigate those who told him the info. IDing the whistleblower isn't even necessary, and protecting him is crucial to ensure others are not scared to come forward.

this all changes. In order to have due process in the Senate the whistleblower must testify. I've seen no evidence that Trump broke his oath to defend and execute the law. In fact, it can be said that he was assisting the prosecution of corruption when he asked for the favor.
To say otherwise is opinion. You can't say what a man was thinking no matter how passionate you feel. It pisses a fair judge off.

Trump doesn't have to be afforded a formal defense until he faces a potential trial in the Senate. He's not on trial for anything at the moment.

This process is being done without legal intent. If the house voted to open an impeachment inquiry the POTUS would have a rep in the proceedings and the minority party could call witnesses and depose prospective witnesses.
Basically, dems are performing before the cameras. They can investigate anything they want but without the house vote it's all a delusion.

We're only in inquiry stage. The House is not constitutionally required to vote to formalize the inquiry. The House Judiciary Committee simply has the inquiry. If we go past that stage, then we start talking about witnesses, POTUS defense, etc.
I'm puzzled why this inquiry stuff keeps getting y'all confused. The president has been charged with nothing. Nada. Zip... yet.

Think of the House as a grand jury. The person being investigated gets no representation, heck, they aren't even notified that the GJ even exists. The trial part, crossing witnesses, etc, happens in the Senate.

He isn’t charged with a crime for 2 reasons anyway:
1). The transcript is public knowledge and there’s nothing impeachable in the conversation.
2). The house hasn’t taken the first step toward an indictment. We’re waiting.....
