I saw one of the first group's tents setting up around 10am Monday on my way into the ticket office, so the first group was there at least 12 days before kickoff.

They're squeezing out the students for $$$ (Donors)

Even in the 90's I could always get a ticket, and one in the lower deck. The Hill was the worst ticket a student could get. Now they stick them up in the stratosphere somewhere.

I graduated in 2009. The ticket policy at that point in time was that students were not guaranteed a ticket. It rarely happens, but there were a couple games during my 4 years where some students didn't get a ticket. I knew students who ended up having to scalp tickets on Saturday in order to go to the GT game in 2006.

I graduated in 2008 and never heard of anyone having problems...but then again I was always pretty prompt when it came to going to get my tickets and a lot of my friends were frat guys who had block seating.

There's 11,000 tickets so there's almost enough for everyone who wants them, but we are waiting to get better tickets. If we just show up on pickup day randomly we will end up in the upperdeck.

glad to see the students' enthusiasm, but...

what's the point of camping out whe pretty much everybody who wants a ticket can get one? I'm assuming that anybody who cares enough to camp out is also an IPTAY member, so it's not like they're in danger of not getting a ticket if they don't get in line early.

No camping=terrible seats
Aug 22, 2013, 9:24 PM

I don't know how it works now, but I camped out some (before I got block seating) to prevent getting terrible seats.
For example, I failed to camp out for the Labor Day FSU game in 2007, and my IPTAY student ticket was the top row of the north top deck in the corner. That's when I learned.

I didn't camp for USC last year and still got a hill ticket by getting in line two hours after the gates opened.

not 20 years ago, ALL students were in the lower deck, from the hill all the way over to C or D. Our student section is not as loud as it used to be because of this. Sad.

There are also about 4000 more students than 20 years ago
Aug 22, 2013, 10:06 PM
|
|
Season tickets have increased, student enrolment is up and the stadium actually lost some seats and spaces on the hill(s). At some point, the students have to start filling in the cheapseats.
Just from talking with graduates of other schools, I can't find one that guarantees a ticket for every student.
I don't know if they still have it, but block seats were the majority of the problems and empty seats between 94-98.

Take a look at other schools they take much better care of the students than we do. Look at Auburn for example. This is their school !!!! They are there every freakin day and should NEVER have to sit on the top row of the upper deck. I don't give a rats a$$ how much money a person gives the school. People b!cth about the students not showing up?? Wonder why

Compare the student activity cost as well
Aug 23, 2013, 11:28 AM
|
|
Again, I'm going by 20 years ago and talks, but our student activity fee is very minimal compared to what I hear other parents paying these days.
The cost has to be covered somewhere. Basically free tickets to a top 10 team is a nice perk. They don't even get free tickets to their high schools.

Freshmen were in the upper deck in 1982

In the early 80's you had to be in a frat, the band or an upperclassmen to get a seat other than the hill or upper deck. Good teams generate more demand for season tix. These are the folks who carry the burden of paying for the program. I wish there were infinite capacity, but reality is a bulldog

Why don't they set a reward system where students who show

up more often to scrub games in football and basketball, or baseball, get premium placement for the bigger games? Surely they scan students' IDs at these events. Would be a solid way to build attendance and cut down on the number of tents. If a new basketball arena is only 8500 seats this kind of deal would be even better. Show up more often? Get premium service for the bigger deals.

They toyed with that idea back in the late 90s

when we had to camp out for basketball tickets. IPTAY Collegiate club basically had a points system that going to games and various sports like soccer and baseball got you more points and guaranteed you tickets to football and basketball.
I think it pretty much imploded on itself because so many of those sports didn't scan your student ID. That and folks would show up for 1 inning and leave.

a premier football program at a school small enough that all students can go to the game. Nobody else comes close to that. It appears a few might miss out these days, but the kids that plan on going to every game will have tickets to this game.

Not all students are guaranteed a ticket. The student section when I graduated in 2007 went from the hill to section C in the south stands. If you were late or it was a big game you could also get stuck in the corners of upper decks.

We were the first tent to set up and we did so around 4pm Saturday afternoon. IPTAY student ticket distribution is Monday morning so we'll come close to camping for nine days. The second tent didn't go up until Sunday I believe; Monday is when the tents really started going up.
To those who are confused as to why students are camping out for tickets, we are doing so in order to get the best student tickets available. Front row for the UGA game will be pretty awesome and is worth the cumulative ~11 hours each individual in our group will have to spend at the tent over the nine days.

Anyone looking for an answer read CLEMSONCO14's response. We want to be closer to the field, that's why we're camping. There's 11,000 student tickets for 17,000+ students. I understand not every one will want to be at that game but there are some students who will miss out, many being freshman. IPTAY members are guaranteed a ticket but I would rather camp out and get like row J than show up late and get upperdeck.
