ND not joining BIG 12

May 22, 2012, 4:50 PM

ND's endowment is $6.2 Billion. They have their own TV contract. And does anyone really think that Notre Dame won't get to play for a national championship if they go undefeated?

The amount of money the Big 12 would have to throw at ND would be insane. Plus, they arent playing second fiddle to anyone, and neither is Texas. The powers that be dont answer to just football fans, and anyone that thinks a school can grow a $6.2 Billion endowment with their football program is an idiot.

Plus, given how much everything has changed (its now an annual, offseason conversation) do you think anyone making any decisions at ND is going to panic because the SEC and BIG 12 formed one bowl game?

The irony is the two biggest upsets and most recent examples of why a playoff should exist involved the SEC and BIG 12, when BSU beat OK and Utah whipped Bama. Now all of a sudden those two conferences are forcing ND (and everyone else's hand) to join them or get left in the dust. Riiiight.

Bottom line is this. Clemson doesnt need to leave the ACC. Clemson, FSU, VT, Miami, and whoever else isnt living under a rock need to

1. Fire Swofford
2. Fire RAYCOM
3. Renegotiate the contract

Yeah I'm sure ESPN is going to come back to the table with more $$.

No kidding. I guess the ACC should just hire Scott Boras

or Drew Rosenhaus for a renewed round of negotiations. That'll show 'em.

There is no way that ESPN would renegotiate with itself and pay us more money for the same product which we are contractually obligated to provide to them. We could breach the contract, but that would carry all sorts of unhappy financial/legal consequences.

What does their endowment have to do with it?

May 22, 2012, 5:02 PM

That doesn't go down or up either way, what matters is their contract vs what it would be in a conference.

And in todays world (vs 10 years ago or even 5) its now plausible that a conference can package a deal more valuable then their own deal.

the domers have many reasons to joion a conference. if we see 4 16 team super conferences they will probably be on the outside looking in for the playoff. secondly will they be able to schedule teams from the big 4 late in the season while these teams are trying to get into the playoff. nd could be with the acc and big east on the outside looking in trying to schedule sun blet and mac teams

ND can and would be number 16 in any conference they want in. So they can just sit and wait and see where they want to go. Sad but true

certainly agree with ALL THREE of your points... but us, FSU,V/T and Miami need to get their act together and start winning
