My first time visit to Aggieland

Sep 10, 2018, 10:17 AM

For anyone who hasn’t been to Texas:

1) Austin is in fact weird. Saw a place called Donut Taco Palace 1. They make and sell exactly what the name implies- donut tacos. Adding palace to the name is a nice touch.

2) Franklin’s BBQ is good, but I’d rather go back to Loro(Franklin’s new concept.) Loro is a delicious mix of BBQ and Asian cuisines. It’s flippin great.

3) Buc-Ees. I’m not sure where to begin. They say it’s a gas station. Bathrooms are super nice.

4) College Station is kind of a bland college town without much character. North Gate is nothing special.

5) Kyle Field is an excellent venue. Great atmosphere. Hospitable folks- although they were less chatty after the game.

6) SHIPPLEY’S DONUTS ARE THE TRUTH. My lawd. Reminded me of Krispy Kreme when KK was still good.

7) Do not describe a kolache as a closed bun hotdog. Apparently they are “so much more than a hotdog.” But really, it’s a hotdog with cheese.

8) The humidity is dumb. Maybe I’m weak after living in wonderfully dry California, but I melted often.

Overall, I enjoyed my trip. Everyone was pleasant and accommodating, no real complaints.

The best way to describe a Kolache...

is to picture a Big Fat Yeast Roll from Quincy's with a hot dog or sausage inside of it.

Pretty dang good if you ask me.

Sometimes good things fall apart so better things can fall together.
