Still don't understand why poor folks vote GOP

http://thehill.com/policy/healthcare/403157-mississippi-to-test-limits-of-medicaid-work-requirements
The five-year waiver request from Republican Gov. Phil Bryant seeks to require non-disabled adults to participate in at least 20 hours per week of “workforce training.”
To be eligible, Medicaid beneficiaries must work, be self-employed, volunteer or be in a drug treatment program, among other approved activities. If people don’t comply, they’ll lose their Medicaid coverage.
...
Mississippi made changes to attempt to solve a major problem related to its strict Medicaid eligibility requirements. In order to be covered, a single parent has to earn less than $3,300 a year. For a family of three, it’s less than $6,000 a year.
If those individuals are required to work, they’ll likely earn too much to qualify for Medicaid, even though the jobs likely won’t offer insurance. It’s a Catch-22 that the administration is keenly aware of.
---------------------------
tl;dr You have to work 20 hrs/week to be eligible for Medicaid, but working 20 hrs/week makes you ineligible for Medicaid.

well alex, if we did not have agencies that force auto manufacturers to test their cars, they wouldn't and we would have to wait until one explodes on the highway to figure out which models not to buy. But at least people would stop buying the cars that explode and cars would not explode until a new model that explodes is released, thus the invisible hand at work. It is a wonderful situation that requires NO government.

Clean air & water, food safety, police, fire & other emergency services, roads, education, healthcare & a social safety net, etc all seem like things worth paying taxes for... not to mention national defense and publicly funded scientific research. You guys realize immigration and border control costs money, too?

federal and state taxes altogether. They'd simply not be allowed to use the things those taxes pay for. I'm sure you're good with driving your probably-not-exploding Jag up and down your driveway. Don't go out on that public road in front of your house though!

BMW rejects any class A body panels if there's so much as a scratch on the inside of it, where nobody will ever see. I'm sure without government they wouldn't have those sort of standards.

no way to band together and figure out a solution for such mishaps. In fact, I bet we wouldn't even know how to put out fires. Criminals gangs roaming the streets, people other than the EPA polluting our water ways, the list goes on. If only the federal government was a little bit bigger, had a little bit more oversight, and a little bit more funding could we achieve Utopia.

taxes and regulations have nothing to do with their desire to build a quality automobile. Do you realize how much money goes into a production vehicle? It's not in their best interests to manufacturer shiddy, exploding cars, and they don't need the government involved to make them aware of that.

It's amazing to me some people have this mindset about government. Particularly a tax payer. It's got to be Stockholm syndrome or something.

Well, GOP pretends a lot of things to trick them into voting. Like how Dems trick the ones on their side that they're really concerned with their equality and giving em stuff.

It won't stop at healthcare. It's like the little charade democrats used to play back in 2008-2010 or so with the "We're not advocating for single payer!!!", now they're all like yeah, that's what we wanted all along duh. Moving goal posts and what not.

as well as the reintroduction of unemployed workers after the great recession have more to do with low wages than illegals.
Or, at the least, the issue of low wages is a bit more complicated than just pinning the blame on illegals (and even then, shouldn't the blame be on the businesses that hire the illegals and not the illegals themselves?)

automation are something we probably can't remedy.
You tell a poor man his job is due to the list you've provided then explain the economic theory of supply and demand of labor and wage rates and see which one he cries the loudest about.

falling into the labor/wage argument as much more of that segment is due to just the abundance of under-educated Americans that are out of a job due to globalization, automation and loss of unions than it is illegal immigrants taking those jobs. That hasn't stopped the Republicans from selling that message and I guess it's working as you've proven.
