Maryland fans not happy

I'm sure they'll put a different spin on it in the weeks and months to come, but the regular old Terps fan doesn't seem happy about this. Can't really say I blame them, either. Sort of like having your school pimped out by some admin. folks with no ACC ties.

What goes unaddressed in all of this is the incredibly POOR job Maryland does in marketing its athletics. I've heard every excuse in the book, the most common being that pro sports rule in this area. That's garbage. When Maryland was having success, they drew fine. Heck, Byrd only holds 54,000 and the student body tops 30. Chuck in the alumni base in the metro area and their lack of support is inexcusable and has to fall right back on them.

Don't blame folks for not missing the Maryland football experience. For purely selfish reasons I hate to see them go. Every couple of years I could hang a Tiger Paw flag above I-95 to torment my neighbors.

IMO Rutgers is the big winner here--from total irrelevance 12 or 15 years ago to a Big 10 team. Not bad.

Interesting factoid is: The FSU HOME game only drew 35,244 fans (per the Stats site I look at). If Byrd holds 54K and they had 20K empty seats for a Top Ten visitor that was playing for the ACC Division crown, then Maryland sucks. PERIOD. Maryland - and teams like Maryland - is why the ACC sucks. The Big Ten just got their Albatross. Good luck with that.

This move was about money and nothing else. Maryland is more of an after-thought than ever now, and they have nothing in common with their conference mates. Their fans get to fly all over the Midwest to see their teams lose by 50 every week.
