Like it or not, believe it or not....(long)

the definition of insanity is continuing to do the same thing and expecting a different result. Right now the coots are increasing the seperation between our program and theirs. If we continue to play in an inferior league bringing in inferior money, the gap wil only get larger.
In the past college football has been cyclical but that was when the money was "fairly" equal. With the major differences between tv dollars between conferences, there is a permanent seperation being created ( see Notre Dame). If we sit back and "expect" the balance of power to shift without us changing anything then we will likely start losing to the coots every year and becoming more and more irrelevant in the National landscape.
Anyone with any business since knows if you want to be the top dog you have to spend like the top dogs. The mom and pops stores cant compete with wal-mart. Right now the ACC is on the verge of being relegated to a mom and pops store while Wal-Mart (the SEC) is making all the money.
If our highest expectations are to win conference championships then by all means we can stay in the pee wee league and compete. However if we ever want to be relevant in the National Champonship hunt again we must move up to big boy football. Even if we won't be successful immediately, thats irrelevant, we will never catch up as long as they are marketing with Wal-Mart money and we keep being less marketable as a brand.
Just my thoughts, and the unfortunate reality of "new" college football.

That probably came from coots or people are bound and determined that we stay in the ACC.

though for using the resources wisely. They've hired great coaches and demanded results and leveraged the recruiting advantage. Anyone that thinks this is just a cyclical, temporary, gap, is fooling themselves.

What recruiting advantage? Clemson gets higher rated….

recruiting classes on the national level, and Clemson out recruits the cooties in the state of South Carolina. The only advantage they have had over the past two season's were Ellis Johnson and an easy schedule. Ellis Johnson is gone and their schedule isn't easy this coming season.

so if yall have so much more talent does thst mean your staff is just horrible on gameday? the results your recruits get are more important than star rankings.

No. What it means is that Clemson went through a coaching change, and that set us back a notch. Last season Clemson had the second youngest team in Div. 1. And what that means is: Your winning is going to be short lived. And I don't care if Clemson is in the ACC or NATO.

with all that money advantage, we have been recruiting as...

good or better than most of the SEC over the past few years. We still outrecruit the cooties overall, and we still outrecruit the cooties in the state of South Carolina. That being said we still need to leave the acc for the Big 12.

the recruiting is irrelevant. Recruiting is a way to a mean, that being winning games. So winning the recruiting war cannot actually be judged until the games are played, and the last 3 years we have lost.

That's circular logic

Money doesn't automatically help you win games. It ONLY helps in attracting talent (and I suppose in building the proper facilities in which they an train) and in attracting and keeping coaches.
I'm not really for or against a conference move. I actually see positives and negatives on both sides, and can only trust the right decision will be made.
But to argue that we must move based on money would, to me, be arguing that our recruiting has been inferior or we aren't paying what we need to to get a quality coaching staff. I'm not sure I see either of those as reasons for our 3 game losing streak to USC.

Our recruiting hasn't "seemed" inferior....

but neither has Texas or Oklahoma. However the SEC has won 6 straight BCS titles. It would seem to me that they get their picks and everyone elsee is scrambling for the leftovers. Money=presitge=talent=championships. Unfortunately thats the circle that is being created.

Lack of money to lure good coaches away from good programs. Didn't we lose a bidding war for Chavis to LSU, and didn't they just play for a national title. Seems pretty cut and dry to me.

I don't have the numbers in front of me, but I'd guess what we pay our HC,OC, and DC would rank very high on a list.
But that is admittedly just my impression.

to bid that high for Chavis. Venables is making about the same amount as Chavis is, and Morris is getting paid over a million dollars a year to be OC.

It Won't Last
Jun 7, 2012, 8:08 PM
[ in reply to with all that money advantage, we have been recruiting as... ] |

Clemson has been recruiting well, but if we stay in the ACC with the huge money advantage it won't last much longer. Remember the SEC has only been getting significantly more money for a few years now.
It was Clemson putting money into the program that kicked recruiting up to the level we're seeing now when they approved the WestZone project.

The NCAA is run by college presidents. In general, college presidents are "everybody feels good and equality" people (Socialists).
Sooner or later big time college football will follow most pro sports and have revenue-sharing OR big conferences will bolt from the NCAA.
As an aside, President Obama has all the makings of a college president.
