Jsst noticed on an epidode of "Coach"

from 1994 that just went off that Hayden's team plays the Tigers in a bowl game. We won! Maybe a good omen for Saturday. I never noticed the episode though, I didn't watch "Coach" regularly then.

They used footage of the Independence Bowl....

....in 1985 that we lost to Minnesota (Coach's team was Minnesota State).

I just remember that their editing of the game footage made our uniforms look bright red.

Who remembers this?

In '85, Clemson and USC went into the rivalry game with around .500 records.

That game was billed "The Battle for Independence" because the winner would earn a berth in the Independence Bowl.

That was back when going to a bowl, any bowl, meant something because there were so few of them. Times have surely changed.

Strange the things you will remember.In that game I kept thinking Mike Hold was going pull off a big play at the end and win that game and on the very last play he was scrambling like crazy. Was so happy when he was finally tackled. The next day I went with my brother to see Clemson play USC in soccer and we lost, ending the season but Clemson fans were chanting Shreveport !Shreveport ! lol.

Perhaps the coldest I've ever been.

Primarily because we just weren't prepared for it. We were living in Louisiana at the time, and when we left home to head to the game it was like 60 degrees, and it was below freezing with a cold wind in Shreveport that night.

Dang cold, and an ugly game we lost to a Holtz coached Gopher squad.

.... a star quarterback from Laurens (Ricky Foggie???) who felt like he had been snubbed by Clemson in recruiting. He got his payback that night.

Actually, Holtz had already bolted for ND by the bowl game. Minnesota's coach was a guy named Gutenkust(sp?) I believe.
