you say Target is hiring? I knew trump would pull this off. I mean who thought retail companies would hire more people around the holidays?

That's great for min wage seasonal workers!!!!!!!

Nov 21, 2018, 9:31 AM

meanwhile, my employer is looking into sending all of my work over to one of our overseas offices...

Is target still hiring?

If Trump wants to do something, THIS is what he could tackle

Nov 21, 2018, 9:56 AM

We're doing the same thing--and will be firing hundreds of skilled, long time workers next year because of it. Trump should put in tax penalties or incentives to keep the work in the US.

yep...today is a coworker/friend's last day (HAPPY TG!)

He's been here 20ish years...and it's NOT because we don't have the work, but rather his billing rate is 2x that of our counterparts in Poland (mine's not...yet). They're using one particular project as an experiment....do all the admin & 'paperwork' architecting here, and the production in Poland. If it works (which it won't, because their work isn't good), they plan on doing more and more projects like this.

Another guy who's been here 30+ years just got his notice, too

If you work for someone else, you'll eventually be aged out.

That's the way it is. Its starts around the early 40's, and doesn't really stop.

architecture right, have they brought in low wage visa workers from singapore who will do the job for 1/2 the rate, and are basically indentured servants because the company holds their visas? This was very popular at Gensler.

badge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

yep, architecture.

Nov 21, 2018, 10:16 AM

WHAT GAVE IT AWAY??

jk, but we don't even have to bring them in...we've got offices in Poland and Philippines (even worse than poland, to the extent that there's NO worry about them getting much work from us even tho they cost less than Poland).

IDK, I think you mentioned it about 15 years ago, I have a good memory like that.

but yeah, I may just end moving to poland at some point, I figure if I am going to work until 78, I will likely end up there before all is said and done.
