Ivy League schools don’t give athletic scholarships...

Dec 22, 2019, 9:19 PM

We just lost at home to an Ivy League school... by double digits.

At this point it’s like giving Brownell an allowance for doing house chores, even though we know he’s not even making his bed each morning.

Loss is a relative term. What I sat through this afternoon was a trip to the wood shed. I shot a better percentage throwing trash at the receptacles following my concession trip

They kind of do give scholarships, but not the exact same way other schools do it.

They give need based scholarships. They have huge endowments.

Ivy league schools don't give athletic scholarships per se

but they do provide financial aid to students, including athletes, on the basis of financial need.

It is based on a FAFSA application and then "maneuvered" from there

Yale Cost $76K a year.

Unless your family has an annual income of over $65K then ALL of the cost will be covered from the school.

From there, if you are above 65K the school looks at a "systemic approach to ensure a diverse and thriving student population and will make awards to meet those goals."

Yale and most Ivies have a policy where if your family does not make 65K a year then you go free, athlete or not. Since the policy is offered to all students and not just athletes then the NCAA is fine with it. Even at $100,000, Yale covers over 85% of the cost and the remaining balance can be covered with other means. At $150K and above the responsibility was around $15K a year.

We have heard it all during our recent college tours of the Ivy Schools and schools around the South with our daughter's college tours.
