The whole bowl season is a sham.

Dec 9, 2013, 10:04 AM

Is there really anybody happy (other than BCS teams) to go where they're going? So many SC fans were so upset that they were going back to Orlando to play a big 10 team again.

I heard nobody wants to play in the Gator bowl. Even some discussion about disappointment for Louiville's 11-1 season and destination.

Even cases like Alabama where Saban is clearly not happy to be playing in a BCS bowl that is not the NCG.

The general thought I'm reading is that nobody is really excited about their bowl game anymore.

If that's the case, why not do away with them outside of the BCS completely. We shouldn't be having bowls just for the sake of having bowls half filling stadiums.

Seems like it used to be a reward, now it is an entitlement. That sucks.

It would be better to nix the conference affiliations***

Have a system where bowls can pick whichever teams they want.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I agree too, but would we be in the Orange this year

Dec 9, 2013, 10:15 AM

if not for the tie in?

We didn't get in the Orange on a tie-in, they could have

I simply never understand...

Dec 9, 2013, 10:11 AM

...the argument that less football around the holidays is a good thing.

Bowls are just another chance to maybe get a good game and something fun to watch, all the while giving you a 3 hour break from talking to extended family.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-20yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I don't want less football. I want the games to mean

Dec 9, 2013, 10:22 AM

something. Give me a reason to want to watch the potato bowl.

Nothing fun about watching a team who has underachieved and getting to go to a bowl when they'd rather be someplace else.

At least watching FCS through December you know that the game means something.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Bowl games are, and have always been, diversions

Dec 9, 2013, 10:28 AM

They are just spectacles aimed at making money.

But, being someone who loves football I don't mind them being "meaningless" because a great number of games each year are meaningless in that they have zero weight in determining who is crowned champion. But, they are entertaining diversions that I enjoy.

And I was specifically responding to:
"why not do away with them outside of the BCS completely."
which, to me, does sound like you are suggesting there be less football.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-20yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

It's still a moneymaker for those that put them on.

Dec 9, 2013, 10:14 AM

So...they're not going away.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I think we need MORE bowl games.

Dec 9, 2013, 10:17 AM

Maybe make the teams with losing records play each other in places like Chester to punish them for having a lousy season.

Could be on top something there. Maybe Obama will introduce incentives for teams to also play in Lockhart and Whitmire.

We had to be wanded at the ACCCG

The girl that wanded me was HOT! No pigs sorry.

ringofhonor-rhtig.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Agree. Seems that everybody is a pouter now. Football is not

Dec 9, 2013, 10:17 AM

played or watched for the love of the sport anymore, its a race for respect, whatever that means. So if somebody doen't give that respect, they pout. Their world is defined by what Mark May says about their team.

Its like all the complaining about Tiger Woods getting all the attention. Most of the PGA players said, "You know what? If you don't like Tiger winning all the time, play better." So they did. Football fans would do well to adopt that atttude.

The playoff will help some of that attitude, but not much. The 5-8 teams will b**ch, and the 4 team will b**ch about the seeding.

I can say this about most Clemson fans: if we had not been invited to the Orange Bowl (and I was suprised we were), we would say the fault was ours. We looked pretty bad against the two good teams we played. It doesn't matter what division we were in: we were not in the acccg because we didn't beat the team we needed to beat. Fine. I love where we are, so lets to win it next year. I need another drink.

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

We played three very good teams

Dec 9, 2013, 11:48 AM

People have forgotten that Georgia was a top 5 team, and probably would've stayed that way had they not lost half the offense to injury. Does anybody think Vanderbilt beats Georgia at even 75% strength? And don't forget that Georgia played Missouri just after losing some of their best players... and of course, there's that Auburn debacle.

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Georgia SHOULD have beaten Auburn.

Dec 9, 2013, 11:50 AM

UGA had the offensive horsepower to beat anybody in the country. Their defense was beyond terrible this year.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Agreed that their defense wasn't very good...

Dec 9, 2013, 12:01 PM

but they still were able to stop Auburn for long enough to get back into that game. As far as Auburn goes, take a look at their defensive numbers. I wouldn't be surprised if they gave up more yards and points than Georgia did.

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

BUT WE GET TO PRACTICE

Dec 9, 2013, 11:30 AM

THAT IS INVALUABLE.

All conference champs and 6 at large, make it so

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

and draw the field in World Cup fashion
