Just my $0.02 worth here, take it any way you want. Just stop with the Gilliam business.
Gilliam is a special talent. I (and most MLB scouts for that matter) completely disagree with your assessment of him. He was put in a really tough spot yesterday because we didn't have anybody that was "dialed in" in the setup position.
It's OK to make a comment about a particular play or something like that---most fans react that way in the heat of the moment. But to imply that a player doesn't have what it takes is pretty bad. Just stop.
Players read this stuff and right now, I can assure you they didn't care for your opinion.

You don't make the clemson or scar team if you are bad. This isn't Erskine. You gotta be pretty darn good to even walk on these teams.

Right now, you are MLB caliber to make either pitching rotation. That's the truth.

But for constructive criticism and Gilliam would be the first to agree, he just needs to pitch ahead in the count and stop falling behind. When he is ahead in the count, he is fine but gets himself into trouble with walks and being behind in the count.
Also, as mentioned, he needs to be a 1 inning closer. Extending him isn’t beneficial.

I don't disagree with what you say about getting behind in the count; but for someone to imply that he isn't good in that role also implies that Monte and Andy don't know what they're doing. And I find that laughable, to be honest.
My question to you is, who else do you put in there yesterday?? SCAR had their bats going and honestly, Monte made the right call.

To be fair (regarding yesterday)

It's almost impossible to get ahead in the count with that erratic strike zone from yesterday. The most you can usually expect from an ump is consistency in what is a strike and what is a ball, and yesterday he was leaving both teams guessing.

The a$$-clown calling the plate yesterday seemed to change the strike zone on a pitch-by-pitch basis.

better job. I have no problem with a generous strike zone; but I hate inconsistency. The strike zone changed yesterday from inning to inning, batter to batter, and from pitch to pitch.
AND The USuCk catcher got away with "framing" all day long. Framing is great, you teach young catchers to turn the glove,etc...but when you are moving your glove 6 to 8 inches and getting a call? Had to have been a High School ump behind the plate.

I totally agree, and one thing I've noticed on Tnet is ppl will turn on a player or recruit really quick when they mess up, have a bad performance, or don't choose clemson. You don't know how many times I've seen ppl talk up a recruit and soon as they commit elsewhere, they weren't good enough or won't be anything. Same goes for our own players it's really sad to see crap like that.

The main thing is remembering these are kids here to grow and learn the game and get an education. The last thing our kids/players need is critical judgement from the fans. Monte has the best possible position to grow them and teach them the game. At their age everything about their game will change for the better and like us they have good days and bad days.
When I was their age if you made a snapshot judgment about me it would have ranged from horrible to great depending on the day because I was still growing and maturing. It’s only by the grace of God I didn’t get in trouble at that age.
We are blessed with an awesome team, the best thing we can do is support them as fans and realize through the good and bad they are growing into the best team and young men they can be.
As for me, I’m so proud of the way they all have played after losing our starting pitching rotation! Ranked 10/12 in respective polls. Go Tigers!!

It took me a long time to learn one simple fact of life ----- demand perfection in my own life before I demand it of others. Finally, recognizing my own imperfections, I lost my ability to demand it of others. We don't lose the ability to recognize the imperfection of others but we do have the option of voicing our opinions in a manner that indicates a degree of common decency.
