Xs and Os and for that reason, I'd like our next basketball coaching hire (whenever that may be) to be someone that is a stellar recruiter.
Don't get me wrong, player development is paramount, but I think more important is that Clemson has to be able to get talented players. I'm not naive enough to think that we can be on par with unc or duke and bring in several all-americans each year, but we ought to be able to consistently bring in pretty good talent for us to at least compete for 20 wins and a tournament spot.
Amanda Whitaker has made an immediate impact on our women's hoops team. I believe that the right hire could do the same thing for our men's basketball team. We need someone that not only has a vision of where we need to go but also has the tools to get us there consistently.
Sorry so long winded today. Just wanted to voice an opinion.

about player talent. Scheme, coaching, development, etc. is not how Duke, Kentucky, Golden State, Houston, Chicago, etc. got their success. It is about having the best players on the court. Especially for men's basketball. Women's is a good bit different because it is legitimately a different game.

Clemson doesn't have enough "friends of the program" to compete for recruits that other teams want.
If the school doesn't have "friends" which are prepared to give family members housing and a job, which is perfectly legal as far as the NCAA is concerned, then the schools that do will get the recruits.

Here's answer for you - NCSU is not as successful as Duke because their players aren't as good. Which is exactly the original statement.
