I take offense to our University being compared to the SEC

Are we being compared to the redneck trailer trash of the SEC like Miss St., MiZZery, KY, ARKY and SCAR that no one would invite to a party for fear of having your couch set on fire to the sound of crowing and cowbells?
Are we being compared to the stars and bars waving SEC like Ole ####, AL and UGAy?
Or are we being compared to a bunch of spoiled-rotten geeks like Vandy?
Or a bunch of backwoods bumpkins like LSU, Allbarn and TN that eat what they kill on the way to the game?
None comes even close to what we are, and what we represent as a University.
We are Clemson. Unique. Inimitable (thanks Tiger88). Pasadena bound.

We are like the SEC in that we have a huge stadium that

usually sells out, and we care about football. This is something that puts us in a distinct minority in our actual conference.

The same could be said for OSU, MI, ORST, UT, TAMU, OK

ND, MSU, and on and on. Many schools with a proud football tradition that fill stadiums.

play in a conference full of other schools that are on par with them in terms of football enthusiasm and commitment. I think the reason Clemson gets all the SEC comparisons is because most of the league is a confederacy of round ball twirling Swaffordettes.

Athletically, there are some similarities between Clemson University and some SEC schools. (in terms of strengths & weaknesses)
Academically, (at the undergraduate level - because of the smaller size) Clemson had been able to differentiate itself. (in a positive way)
It will be interesting to see how the creation of newer (and more powerful) technologies will effect this advantage.

I can't believe you omitted the "teabaggers" from Alabama.
Good post though - I agree - we are way ABOVE anything SEC.

I think some of you take things too seriously. Unless you are in the Ivy League, it doesn't matter what conference your athletic programs compete in. I doubt a Vandy grad has ever been turned down for a job because their athletic programs compete against Ole Miss or South Carolina. Competing against Duke or UVA has never been a reason for me getting a job.
Whether most Clemson fans want to admit it or not, having teams like Alabama, UGA, or LSU coming to town would sure beat Wake, BC, or NC State. The Auburn series was fun, the UGA series should be fun, etc. The Clemson/SEC hate comes from hatred for the coots, plain and simple.

or being jealous of a conference that has won 7 nc in a row. I also agree that it may have something also to do with our in state rival being in that conference and beating us 4 years in a row. all we need to do is win. nothing else, everything else will take care of itself. of course any conference that wins nc is going to get the bulk of media attention. one last word WIN WIN WIN WIN!!!!

Oh, you mean like this one that was flown at an Ole Miss game?
Not condoning/condemning it, but it sure could be construed as inflammatory.
Is that the image you want to see at Death Valley?
