Our opening song was Proud to be an American and I swear there was more excitement than I've seen in months. There were actually people with their hands in the air in worship of....well America I guess.....

My church sings songs about Jesus and God. And involves scripture from the Bible. Church isn't about Trump. Or any other politician. hth.

Somewhere along the way patriotism and being a faithful Christian became intertwined. Last Fourth of July service we actually had someone dressed like Uncle Sam standing at the door handing out American flags as people came in.

That would be the early 1980s when Jerry Falwell and his Immoral Majority took the reins of the Republican Party. What we are experiencing now in the Trump era is the logical conclusion: evangelicals who overwhelmingly support a Republican president who bones pr0n stars while his wife is pregnant (and pays them off later to keep quiet), swears like a sailor, and separates brown children from their parents. Just like Jesus would.
