I just got done watching CJ's highlights & jersey retirement

Aug 9, 2013, 10:48 PM

and I kinda teared up a little. Dabo wasn't lying when he said this kid's gonna change Clemson forever (which I believe he has indeed). Best student-athlete to ever come through Clemson on and off the field? I'm too young to remember the 80's and 90's but I think it's him.

I love CJ. Just love him. I like to tell folks and remind myself that the best open field runner in the history of college footall, CJ Spiller, went to Clemson.

That said, it would be hard for me to agree with your 'best ever' assessment.

Jeff Davis was first team All American, ACC MVP, Captain of the 1981 Clemson National Championship Team, MVP in the Orange Bowl, has been inducted into the Clemson Ring of Honor, the Clemson Hall of Fame, the SC Hall of Fame AND THE COLLEGE FOOTBALL HALL OF FAME. Jeff played six years in the NFL where he led his team in tackles for 3 years. Outside of football, Jeff has been a minister, and an inspirational leader winning notable recognition for service to the community in an award from Oprah Winfrey. Jeff now serves his alma mater as an employee, an ambassador of good will, sportsmanship and functions as Director of Player Relations and External Affairs in the athletic department. In the ten years before Jeff Davis got to Clemson, the Tigers won 45 games. In the ten years after JD arrived on campus, Clemson won 86 ball games.

I love CJ to death, but I'd hate to read the Jeff Davis resume and say someone else did better as a Clemson student athlete.

I'm a youngin, and I never had the privilege to see him play but just from reading and hearing about him, he's definitely up there. But I have a feeling that in 20 years, CJ will have done and be doing some pretty remarkable things. Both are great ambassadors for CU.

All over it. What JD has done has been remarkable, but CJ has the opportunity, especially now since Buffalo got rid if Chan Gaily who had little clue how to use his best weapon, to light it up even more than JD. I hope he does. It would be a tribute to 2 fine men, great coaches and a great University.
