I have a pretty important off-season question for you guys

Mar 15, 2018, 7:46 AM

Actually this question is a few parts (especially directed toward anyone living in Sparkle City or working for the infamous SCDOT):

1) What in the world are they doing to I-85 NB through Spartanburg (besides simply resurfacing it)?

2) How much longer is this little shindig going to take?

3) Why do I never see more than exactly 3 human beings working on said shindig at a time (see question #2)?

Living in Charlotte now, it is greatly impacting my drive time and sanity with regards to attending Clemson sporting events. Any information is appreciated. TIA in advance.

It also looks like they’re about to widen another stretch of I-85 just south of Gaffney (whatever lovely part of SC that is referred to). I have a great idea... why don’t we just start all of our I-85 projects at the same time without finishing any of them first? Sound good?

I live in the Boiling Springs, S.C. area. We have put up with this for a year. We are no more informed than you. We avoid it at all costs. As for going to Clemson, we go Highway 11. Not much traffic and a lot less stressful. I would love to know the time frame too!

good idea

I sometimes travel 11 to Clemson simply because you get to see the grandest part of South Carolina and the traffic is never very bad. Takes at most ten minutes or so longer for me. Glassy Mt area is worth the trip.

1. They're re-coloring it so you won't notice all the pot

holes until you hit them.

2. Friday, but then they'll start again Monday.

3. You only ever see three because the other 200 are busy causing wrecks down in G'ville.

They're widening I-85 from 2 to 3 lanes in each direction

Mar 15, 2018, 11:03 AM

The project includes:
-rehabilitation of the existing 6 lane concrete portion from approximately mile marker 77 to mile marker 80
-the construction of a new railroad bridge at mile marker 80.5
-the widening to 3 lanes in each direction from mile maker 80 to mile marker 98
as well as interchange construction at numerous exits.

The construction is expected to last well into 2021.

And the lovely area just down I-85 from Gaffney is picturesque Cowpens.
