Under Armour just signed the coots to a $72 million deal

Feb 19, 2016, 2:58 PM

We got absolutely screwed by Nike. How does a 3-9 team get a deal worth 50 million more than the team that will be in the playoffs for the presumable future.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I'm struck by those that somehow take offense

Feb 19, 2016, 3:22 PM

At some suggesting we aren't getting a fair shake from Nike. Sure, Clemson is in a good financial situation right now and winning helps but why ignore the fact we need every single available dollar to stay on par with our main competitor conference, the SEC. Regardless of how much we "make" we get about $7-9 million dollar less from our conference affiliation that those members of the SEC. The money gap appears to be getting wider and we need to look for any and all additional revenues. Once the coaches contracts are increased and the new facilities are being built, we need all the cash we can get. Come on DRad, do your job, you've already sold us a boondoggle of our " new" basketball arena.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Actually a few "powers" wear Under Armour

Feb 19, 2016, 3:46 PM

Auburn and Notre Dame both wear it.

Nike dominates the market though (over half of the schools wear Nike), and Under Armour has to pay extra to get deals.

Not a fan of the Under Armour look, but extra money is always nice.

We could name ourselves the Clemson Dickbutts and achieve equal nationwide notoriety, but I'm not sure any of us would be proud about it.

No doubt you guys made a home run hires with Dabo and Noonan. But the more the revenue gap increases the more opportunities we have to make home run hires.

Everyone wants to write off Muschamp already. But he has the potential to be a home run hire. He had one bad year at UF and wasn't given the opportunity to rebuild Florida. Dabo went 6-7 in his second year. If he had been at Florida he would have been run out the door as well. At Carolina he will be given the time to build.

Clemson had the highest paid assistants in the country for a while. I expect them to get another nice bump soon.

Clemson revenue is tiny compared to OSU, FSU, Alabama, Michigan and we're competing for titles every year. Clemson is the poster child of how to win with less. Don't get your hopes up to much.

Feb 19, 2016, 5:36 PM

is $4M next year... rising to $4.9M by end of deal (on top of their annual "rights fee" of $2M+). That's almost 4x ours. They're going to be running out new unis every other week. Personally, I think that's dumb and like our traditional, rarely changing unis (like Bama), but I'd be naive if I didn't admit that kids nowadays love that stuff (look at Oregon... if they weren't IN OREGON, they'd probably have 4 nattys by now).

WE GOT SCREWED BY NIKE. HARD. GREAT JOB D-RAD!

with their traditional unis generally, don't they? I didn't watch enough of their games to know. The Coots don't have much tradition, so I could see their unis getting out of hand. That said, I think ND and Auburn just wear their traditional unis.
