Help me figure this out

Jan 27, 2017, 7:17 PM

Alabama has signed 101 new recruits in the last 4 classes:

2017 = 25
2016 = 25
2015 = 24
2014 = 27

During the same period OSU took 94, FSU took 94, and Clemson took 84.

Since the limit is 85 scholarships, how are these team taking so many recruits every year?

Serious Question

Yep pulled scholarships which is something Clemson does not do. Once a person commits to Clemson, Clemson commits to them.

consider redshirts. Thus, you really should be looking at five recruiting classes or about 125 signees (at Alabama and many other schools)but only 85 can be on scholarship at any time. So the difference has to be in graduates, transfers, dismissals, early departures for the pros and those that are run off or encouraged to leave/transfer because they are not going to contribute materially. I believe there are a lot more of that latter category at most schools other than Clemson. I believe Dabo gives them a chance to graduate even when it is obvious they will not contribute substantially to the team. Some schools may threaten or actually pull scholarships to get below the limits. There was a move to stop this in recent years by guaranteeing a four year scholarship. Not sure if that is now required but I think some schools are doing that.

Alabama/SEC is why they made the 25 per cycle rule. In 2009 Scar signed 32 players. They've all been oversigning for years.

Lorenzo Mauldin who's now with the Jets was informed via fax on signing day that he no longer had a scholarship offer after Clowney announced.

It's BS....
