Heck, I remember when old John C. Calhoun used to

get on his horse at Fort Hill to gallop off to Washington, and his wife would come out and say, "Get on that hoss and ride, Clyde!" Then, came ole Tom Clemson who wanted to get in on the new football craze and figured out the best way was to give up some land for a college.
But the things I remember the most were some of the old "specialty" football plays of the early days, particularly the Flying Wedge and the notorious Brass Knuckles play...no explanation necessary. What I hated was the requirement for early morning emptying of the chamber pots, which if you've never used one, required a certain amount of precision whether standing or sitting!
The major change to our most beloved sport was the rule forbidding the carrying of firearms or other weapons, such as bayonets, to the games. Clemson cadets raised such a howl that their voices were heard across the foothills, hence, the phrase, "Where the Blue Ridge screams its greatness..." later changed to "yawns." Sort of an early allowance to political correctness.
And lest anyone think the cadets weren't well fortified with liquid nourishment during games, think this: there was a Litter Patrol of cadets after games whose sole purpose was to police up empty bottles...which, of course, were used for a form of Molotav Cocktails during the Clemson/SC games. That's how the age-old tradition of having fried chicken during the games began....just saying.

When the students would stand the entire game, cheering our team on, while the alumni sat in their seats most of the game.
And now...well...I'm not standing the entire game anymore and the students probably talk about us.
