Have to admit our running game for 2014 worries me

Jul 6, 2014, 1:34 PM

So many unknown factors:

Can Cole Stoudt give us some complimentary runs in our zone read?

Who will be our go-to guy in short yardage?

Who will be the back in "gut check" time in a tight ball game?

I'd feel a lot better if Tyshon Dye comes back 100%

A few simple answers in response to your worries:

1. DJ HOWARD

2. CJ DAVIDSON

3. WAYNE GALLMAN

4. A HEALTHY TYSHON DYE

5. A BIGGER LEANER AND FASTER ZAC BROOKS

6. ADAM CHOICE

7. JAY JAY MC CULLOUGH

8. KURT FLEMING Beast Mode

9. DJ READER IF NEEDED. 330LBS AND RUNS A 4.6 IN THE 40

What are you worried about? Clemson has 9 RB/FB/HB/TB to choose from if we need them. In other words we can keep fresh legs in the game continuously...

Then we have a QB who is accurate and runs a faster pace than Boyd. He also hits his check downs better. The only position in question is the offensive right tackle. I believe Tyrone Crowder will get the nod on that one after fall camp. We got this season to look forward to and it is going to be epic.

LOL. Fans will believe anything they want to positive about their team. I'll eat my shorts if reader does that at the combine. Won't happen.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

If you think that is out of the realm of possiblity then you

Jul 6, 2014, 3:12 PM

don't watch a lot of football. If a 6-5, 300lb DE in Robert Nkemdiche can do the same on a fake punt, so can Mr. Reader. Reader is a great athlete, not some sluggish behemoth...

Re: If you think that is out of the realm of possiblity then you

Jul 6, 2014, 3:45 PM

At the combine, electronic timed, a 4.6 won't happen for a 330 lb dl. Not just Reader. Just can't move that much mass that fast.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Hence, short yardage...he doesn't need to produce Spiller

Jul 6, 2014, 4:43 PM

speed, just move a pile....strength is his greatest attribute, not speed.

I think too often people get caught up on numbers. Does anybody ever take into account his quickness off the line? That alone would help tremendously in hitting a hole and getting that 1-3 yards for a 1st down...

6'5 and 330 and only runs a 4.6??? H*ll my grandma runs a 4.4! We need our guys to sign their commitment to excellence in 76'

You have 9 boys on the roster at RB or FB. with no one yet proven. Lets give it a while to see where things stand before proclaiming greatness.

Jul 6, 2014, 2:08 PM

agree with you. Replacing thomas and Shatley will be tough, although I am going to remain optimistic and hope that this will be the year that we finally make strides forward in department. You have to believe Morris was licking his chops watching Auburn's run game last year, and as I recall he payed a visit to Malzahn earlier this year.

If not this year, help is certainly on the way.

Yep, no tested RB's. CJ, Terry Allen or Ellington would look

Jul 6, 2014, 2:18 PM

great in the backfield in 2014. GoTiGERS!

I am excited about choice, think he is the APB we have been waiting for. I have him on par with Ellington talent wise.

Pete Roussel saw both Clemson and UGA in practice...

Jul 6, 2014, 2:54 PM

And STILL picked Clemson to win that game...and the national title.

If UGA's got some of the best backs, if not THE best backs in the country, then Pete must've saw something at Clemson he liked...just a thought.

Re: Pete Roussel saw both Clemson and UGA in practice...

Jul 6, 2014, 2:58 PM

yeah, he saw jordan legget and Stoudt hook up on a 40 yarder into the endzone that was absolutely effortless. I see no drop off in the pass game, and it seems a lot of the experts point to the lack of proven Skill players on this squad. I beg to differ.

Never heard of the guy. Can't all of the sudden act like

Jul 6, 2014, 3:24 PM

a guy has ton of credibility just because he picks us to win NC. None of that means a thing right now. What did sports illustrated ranks us? How bout Lindy? Phil Steele? See what I mean.... Doesn't really matter

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I suggest you look up Pete Roussel before acting like this

Jul 6, 2014, 4:46 PM

guy has no credibility....here, I'll help:

This is probably the biggest issue. Once teams learn they don't have to respect the qb keep as much as they did with Boyd those rb run lanes will get tighter and tighter.

Tyson Dye has not yet played a down

Jul 6, 2014, 3:20 PM

Why will you feel better if he is healthy? Me thinks yur a coot...

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Tyson Dye has not yet played a down

Jul 6, 2014, 3:59 PM

Did you not hear Dabo rave about Dye all last season? He mentioned him more than any back in interviews last year. Me thinks YOU'RE the Coot for not knowing that.

Our running backs are last year's defensive line -

Jul 6, 2014, 4:52 PM

unknown, unheralded, and dangerous.

This position has been stockpiling along with everywhere else on the field - out goes one, in comes another. Except now we're gaining depth on top of talent, and putting them behind a line that's doing the same.
