Joe Biden [republicians] "are the dregs of society"

Apparently 'deplorables' was too good for the left.

I doubt he said that...the brackets seem pretty convenient.

Anyone have a transcript of what he said?

He was talking about intolerant people who attack the LGBTQ community. He called them a small percentage but said they had an ally with Trump. He wasn't calling all Trumpies or Republicans "dregs". Wilbur made that up.

If that's what he said, then he indeed wasn't referring to

Trump supporters, definitely not Republicans. He may have been talking about me, not sure. I'd like to see a transcript.

Here's exactly what he said:
"Despite losing in the courts and in the court of public opinion, these forces of intolerance remain determined to undermine and roll back the progress you all have made. This time they - not you - have an ally in the White House. This time they have an ally. They are a small percentage of the American people - virulent people, some of them the dregs of society. And instead of using the full might of the executive branch to secure justice, dignity, and safety for all, the president uses the White House as a literal bully pulpit, callously exerting his power over those who have little or none."
As you can see, he's not referring to Trump supporters as a whole or Republicans.

So can we call out Biden on the substance of his....

statement then?
I take issue that Trump has used his bully pulpit to callously exert his power of LGBT folks.
If he's talking about opposition to gay marriage, then wouldn't Obama and Clinton also fit that description?
Maybe he's talking about the trans-gender military service issue, but that seems like a stretch.

As do I. I don't think Trump has done this. Plenty of bad stuff, but not this. It's fearmongering on Biden's end.

So...

You either knowingly or negligently post something false, and the recovery mode is, "Well, I bet the MSM would have done this to Trump!"
Actually, the right wing media is intentionally doing it to Biden right now.

Well, let's clarify (although still a dumb statement)
Sep 19, 2018, 10:56 AM
|
|
And Biden didn't technically call all Trump supporters "dregs of society". Not Republicans. Remember, neither Trump nor Trumpies are actual Republicans or conservatives. And he certainly didn't call Republicans "dregs".
He did state that certain people in the population, like KKK, neo-Nazis, and alt-right were the "dregs," and that they found comfort with the Idiot in Chief in the White House.
Kind of boils down to a logic issue. Not all Trump supporters are those kinds of people. But those kinds of people usually are Trump supporters.
However, I think Biden's statement is still a dumb one and makes the same mistake Hillary made with the "deplorable" comment. Rather than trying to understand where these people come from and bridge a gap, he devolves into more name-calling. That isn't how you'll fix the divide, Joe.
And also, be careful how you present the facts yourself.

This is why the Democrat bench for POTUS is so troubling
Sep 19, 2018, 11:08 AM
|
|
All the articles I read put these people at the top of the list (not in order): Sanders, a socialist Warren, a socialist Kamala Harris...I don’t know much about her but I know she is a dem from CA who supports universal healthcare Booker, who is apparently desperate to make a name for himself with disappointing theatrics Holder...I mean, please. And Biden, who people like but they forget what an unbelievable gaffe machine he is. And he’ll be 79, I think, in 2020.
This is a terrible bench. Terrible.
A lot of people mention Hickenloop. Don’t know much about him but maybe.

Not really. That's the problem we have right now.

There's really no middle of the road Dems with name recognition. Their consistency might be their downfall. On the other side of the aisle there is a broad spectrum of Republicans to choose from because of the fractured nature of the party.
