The "Look In" Clauses
May 31, 2012, 11:40 PM
|
|
One final observation... with the "look ins", simply, if at that period time a conference is performing well, the "deal" can be modified. Bottom line, if (when) the ACC OVERALL is playing better Football, I read the deal would be modified to at least MATCH others (again, my understanding). Bottom, bottom line, win games, beat good teams.

Exactly, and by that time the ACC will be Big East status.

fact that it appears the ACC is going to be dubbed on the outside looking into the Big Four conferences. That will make recruiting very difficult and eventually take its toll. The ACC needs to do something about that perception by bowls, an arrangement with another conference not named Big East, etc.

ESPN reporting on its own business deal. Nice. I'm sure ESPN is happy with it.
Has the contract been released yet?

getting the proposed 4 team playoff modified... AQ Conference Champions automatically go to the playoff, plus 3 wildcards, for eight teams. The three wild cards will keep the SEC happy, since there is a high probability that at least one of the wildcards would come from the SEC, often, two. "AQ Champion Auto Go" would neutralize the need to from "Super Conferences" I would think.

is 8 still even on the table? These guys want a plus 1 and nothing else right now from anything I've heard. 8 would be better, but 16 would take out much of the bias and allow the Boise's or previous TCU's to be able to prove it on the field. This is something the BCS'ers would never want, regardless of the attention/$$$ it would garner. Rather keep my millions than share my 10's of millions (yes, I know its already 10's of, easier to say 1's vs. 10's than 24's vs. 42's)

Would love to have a 16 team playoff...

said the same thing several times before ... from what I've read, a 16 team playoff would generate the most revenue. Downside is that you would probably need to reduce the regular season to 11 games....I would not have a problem with that. FCS has been running a true playoff for a while now... with great success.

end a lot of this panic. They all seem to agree that in a few years we will be at an 8-team playoff. Why not just get it right from the start?

SEC won't agree to it....they can split the pie up right now

with their current strength taking 1/2 the money...they are going to get 2 teams into a 4 team playoff....8 team playoff they get 1/4 of the money.

Does the SEC have veto power over the other Conferences?
Jun 1, 2012, 11:05 PM

I do not think so. What will the "other" Conferences (the non-AQ's aka "the unworthy") think of a 4 team playoff. I bet a lawsuit is filed, anti-trust, exclusion .... I know, their Socialists!!!

it was the $$$, then the REAL numbers started being put out and the conference jumpers had to change their story.Bottom line, an UNDEFEATED ACC team will not get left out of the NC unless all of the other conferences have undefeated teams. One that is a proven fact, the whining still won't stop.

Re: Good Read On ESPN Deal: ACC vs BIG-12 ...

In the contract, the ACC gave sponsorship (naming) rights to ESPN for all of the conference championships, except football, if ESPN wants them. Could this be where the extra $2 million may come from?
