It means that it's old news / seen it before.
It was derived by some famous T-netter who was actually quoting a line from the movie "1941" or "Animal House" with John Belushi.
"When the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor"

Germans = Subject has already been posted/discussed
Sep 10, 2013, 5:30 PM
|
|
From long ago in Tigernet History: 1) Someone would post a "Woe is Me, the sky is falling" post 2) Someone else would follow with "Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor?" (Animal House Quote) 3) Invariably someone would "correct" the History 4) Everyone would laugh at the guy who hadn't seen Animal House 5) This happened time and time again until it the word "Germans" simply came to mean, "Oh no, not this again"

I remember it coming from a particular game when

we were getting beat early on, and somebody posted "It's over", and somebody replied with the Animal House quote ("Over?! Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor?"). Then somebody who was not familiar with Animal House would post "Germans? I think you mean Japanese" only to be mocked and toyed with by the regulars. This happened over and over and over until anything that had been beat to death became "Germans". Sorta like this explanation.

A few additions to the dictionary

Deer- A tnet poster once wrote an open letter to Dabo entitled "Deer Dabo". The letter went on to bash our fair coach but nobody read it because they were too busy laughing at the title. The incessant mocking lead to everybody beginning letters with "deer" instead of "dear."
Lot 1 football- an incident that occurred on lot 1 in which kids throwing a football hit a nearby tailgate multiple times. The person then took their football and knifed it resulting in one of tigernet's most heated debates on its justification or lack thereof.
York Tiger/Stanley Tiger- The spokesmen during the great Big 12 debate.
RN's Mom- The mother of Clemson recruit Robert Nkemdiche. Pushed her son away from Clemson to Ole Miss with her other son despite never visiting Clemson. Pretty much hated throughout tnet.
USC/Carolina- The University of Southern California and The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Swag- Chad Kelly defined

This is why I was a "lurker" for so long! Didn't understand "Germans" and was scared to death of a "thumbs down" from a "Nazi" or a "####" from the "sarcasm meter." For sure didn't want to post a "dead horse" or be mistaken for a "coot." Anyway, thanks guys. I feel much more confident now . . . "serially!"

"it's already been said." Unfortunately (and ignorantly), it comes from a quote which has nothing to do with redundancy, only a extremely inadequate knowledge of history.
So it could be said that "'germans' is itself an example of 'germans.'"
But just like the 'woo hoo', it ain't goin' anywhere anytime soon.
