I like the kid's attitude. I think we are better defensively that last year, and I think because of attitudes like this, we will get much, much better. I sure hope so anyway.

It's great to be able to play a lot of players, but the 1st D has to learn how to play as ONE during games, they have to earn the right to sit during a game, not be rewarded because the work of the O and their score.

They didn't sit the 1st team last week, so...I'm not sure you know what you're talking about. You may want to watch the game next time.

Love your post, I am a little tired of hearing about our young team as well. If we have such a great graduation rate why are we always a young team?

They always say it, but this year it's actually true.

Right now, a lot of our current seniors are from Dabo's "Dandy Dozen" class after Bowden was fired. We have also lost several of that dozen due to various kinds of attrition. We have a crop of juniors which is somewhat on the smaller size, and a huge sophomore and freshman presence. Just look at the roster (look only at recruited players, not all the walk-ons).

Same issues we had last year, but with much better DL players in Thompson, Branch, and Moore.

Very simple solution. Run tackling drills in practice. Teach the boys how to use their shoulders, not their arms. Practice getting in front of the ball carrier to make the hit. One will be surprised how much a confidence booster it would be if the coaches taught fundamentals and the players practiced those fundamentals. Obvious arm tackling (waving) has to stop. Period.

Defensive backs should time their hits on a receiver to closely coincide with his reception of the ball. This is easily done when the receiver stops for the catch. That way he will be stationary , not moving or faking (as he is when defender lays back and gives him room). I see this error time and time again with our team resulting in defender getting faked out.
