Why Da'quan Bowers was better than Clowney.
Jul 17, 2013, 7:33 PM
|
|
In the year 2009, Da'quan Bowers had 27 solo tackles, 16 assisted tackles, giving us 46 total tackles. In the same year, Bowers recorded 10.5 TFLs & 3.0 sacks.
In 2010, Bowers had 41 solo tackles & 26 assisted tackles, bringing us 67 total tackles. He also recorded 26 TFLs and 18.5 sacks, both which lead the NCAA.
His total over those two years brings 68 solo tackles & 45 assisted tackles, which totals at 113 tackles. Also, 36.5 TFLs, and 18.5 sacks. He also recorded one interception.
.......
In 2011, Jadeveon Clowney recorded a measly 17 solo tackles, and 19 assisted tackles, giving us 36 total tackles. In addition, he had 12 TFLs and 8 sacks.
In 2012, Clowney recorded 20 solo tackles, and 14 assisted tackles. That's 54 total. He had 23.5 TFLs, and 13 sacks.
His two year total gives us 57 solo tackles and 33 assisted tackles. His total was 90 tackles. He had 35.5 TFLs and 21 sacks.
........
Now for the head to head comparison.
Total Tackles: Bowers: 113/Clowney: 90
Tackles for Loss: Bowers: 36.5/Clowney: 23.5
Sacks: Bowers: 18.5/Clowney 21
Interceptions: Bowers: 1/Clowney: 0
Over the course of two years, Bowers leads every category except sacks. Bowers also played (arguably) Bette offenses, including having to deal with the GT option every year.

Or what about

double , triple and quadruple teams ? Clowney is sometimes blocked by 4 players while being ear tagged for scientific study purposes and relocation to a more remote location where he can avoid contact with humans and mate freely .

Guys this is silly.
How many times did Bowers or any other Defensive player play in DV?
How many times has Clowney played in DV?
He holds a sack record in Clemson's stadium. That alone says no need to bring up his name until Clemson wins.

Da'quan vs Clowney
Jul 17, 2013, 8:39 PM

You do realize that you are using Bowers last two years vs Clowney' s first two years. As a freshman Bowers had 1 sack and then 3 as a sophomore . Clowney had 8.5 and followed it up with 13.5. Bowers was great and can stand with anybody without someone misusing the stats

Would definitely be a more fair comparison the let clowney play his junior season since you are using bowers soph and jr stats. Also bowers may have played higher scoring offenses but that doesnt mean they are better given that acc defenses are not as good. Plus, on the average the SEC has better offensive lines. After this year we will see where clowney gets drafted. Probably the best indicator of who the better player was.

Haha typical coot, gotta bring up the conference play...
The NFL Draft probably WON'T be the best indicator based on the fact that Bowers was projected as a top 10 pick before the stuff came out about his knee. If he was totally healthy when drafted then we would have a better indicator.
