Frequent flyers

Can I buy refundable tickets to San Fran now for Jan? Are the refundable ones the ones that cost 3X? What's the best option here?

Make sure you pay attention to the rule. Many times, even with a refundable ticket, a “life event” had to occur to get your money back. So like a sickness, death, etc.. they all are different. Don’t just click and buy.

So sounds like best option is to wait

Absolutely. But I would still shop and see if say Southwest for example is truly refundable without a life event.

Never buy trip insurance either. Huge scam.

Please to be explaining

why the insurance is a scam. I don't buy it so I don't know a thing about it. But my FIL buys it every time, so I would love to be able to explain to him why he is wrong.

(And to let him know what I'm doing to his daughter, but that's a topic for another thread.)

It’s a third party company that handles the claims. You basically have to be dead or know someone dead to get your refund.

I purchased it a long time ago for a trip. My dad has a really bad run of chemo and they thought he was dead. I cancel the trip I was supposed to go on and rebook to go back to see my pops.

The docs note from the hospital nor the chemo doc note got me my refund. They refused to process the claim. Complete utter bs.
