Finish, Finish, Finish!

Sep 4, 2016, 9:07 AM

My takeaways from last night were these:

1. It was the first game. Mistakes are going to be made. But, it was victory where we did not play our best game.

2. Auburn's defense is pretty darn good.

3. Offensive play calling was not the best we've seen out of our staff.

4. Defense played lights out despite being put in bad positions by our offense. Except for that last drive where we played prevent defense instead of applying pressure like we had successfully done all game.

5. The offense just could not finish drives. We moved the ball all night long but we just couldn't finish off drives. I think that will get better as the season progresses.

6. I said before the game that all that mattered to me was we get out of there with a win. Hostile environment. Late night game. Just let us win and move on even if it is by just one point. As long as we win the game, we will not suffer in the polls.

7. Offense seemed out of sync (maybe Auburn had something to do with that) and almost were sleepwalking through much of the game. That too can be changed. We can be beaten by lesser teams and that hopefully is a sobering realization that the offense should not be listening to all the hype about them.
