tradition, known as a middling program at best in their conference, located in Columbia, SC, gets a very highly rated running back out of Maryland over the likes of Penn State, Georgia, and the home state school?

No, it’s some new coach they hired that has been calling him daily. It’s on FGF in a thread about his commitment. They said the new coach was already “Paying dividends”. So they basically admit he is paying players.

New RB coach Thomas Davis has a pretty good track record. It's not surprising he landed a coveted RB. Their problem will be there's no one to block for him.
