Because weed will be legal everywhere one day in the US. Alcohol was just more socially accepted and has been for a long time. Weed is growing at it's own pace. My granparents thought weed was a serious drug. People generally know different now.

Started in the 50s with the dupont family seeing Hemp as a threat to their new synthetic fibers, so they used negative propaganda in the media to demonize the drug version in order to get all Hemp made illegal. -see reefer madness

Now in the 70s the Richard Nixon administration relabeled it a schedule 1 narcotic, because he could lock up hippies and inner cities blacks, basically the counter culture movement that was going on at the time that scared the bajeezas out of paranoid conservatives like tricky ####.

finally people are waking up, 45 years later.

It started with Hearst. He saw hemp as a threat to timber. He used to run articles in his papers demonizing weed.
