Dook had plenty of talent without Zion!

Feb 21, 2019, 7:57 AM

But they don’t play team ball, they don’t move well without the ball, and Barrett is a ball hog prima donna.....

relying on freshmen

sometimes has consequences

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

That's a really unfair assessment.

Give them a chance to game plan and practice some without him and see what they can do in the return trip to UNC. Not only is losing the best player in CBB a huge blow from a talent and production stand point, but that's also tough on a team mentally.

Dood, I said they had the talent without Zion

Feb 21, 2019, 8:35 AM

They have played without him before.

UNC players were constantly in motion and team-balled Dook, whereas Dook players were standing around on offense, little movement...go back and watch the game!

And despite that this was a team that was 2nd in the nation

in PPG and 3rd in KenPom's offensive efficiency metric. What they were doing was working extremely well with Zion in the lineup. It seems a little unreasonable to expect them to have an extensive game plan in place in that event Zion Williamson - the best player in the country - is unavailable.

Re: unreasonable to expect them to have a...game plan

I think it is very reasonable to expect someone of Coach K's caliber (and salary range) to have a plan B. Knee and ankle injuries are not that unusual in basketball.

no inside presence without him though. Everyone has been

Feb 21, 2019, 9:25 AM

so used to sitting on the 3 point line and watching Zion work. Without Zion they're lost.

Zion manufactures a lot of offense with his athleticism so without him they stagnated last night. He also is a better defender than some may realize so Luke destroyed them with Zion not in the game. Totally different team without him mentally and physically.

especially mentally!

At an elite program like that, it ought to be “Next Man Up”

Feb 21, 2019, 9:47 AM

It is for us in FB. They aren’t a one man show, or at least shouldn’t be.

That's apples and oranges

Feb 21, 2019, 11:36 AM

1) There are 22 starters in a football game and 5 in basketball. Losing a football starter = less than 5% of your lineup vs 20% of your lineup in basketball.

2) An elite player in basketball can have a bigger impact on the game than probably any other single player in any other sport. Perhaps an elite QB or a dominant SP in baseball are somewhat comparable, but losing an elite player in basketball is extremely detrimental.

I’ve thought Barrett is a ridiculous ball hog all year
