Don't complain about student attendance

Nov 30, 2012, 12:23 PM

The most students Alabama has had show up since 2008 was 13,638 of the 17,000 seats available.

Things have changed since we used to wait outside the gates to be the first row of the hill...I was in starbucks on the way to the tailgate spot last weekend and it was packed with students - i don't get it.

Those people are still around. It's just the ones who would rather watch on TV than sit in the nosebleeds that don't come.

Side note: Bama has about 25000 undergrads enrolled

(28000 if you count on-line students).

Whereas Clemson provides a ticket for every enrolled student (I think even those in the Bridge Program at Tri-County Tech), and it would be unrealistic to expect them all to come to games, or even like football.

Still, percentage-wise 30% do not even attempt to go to a game and they 50% of students don't go to any given game. That seems on par with us

As a student I NEVER missed a game, but that was back

Nov 30, 2012, 1:20 PM

when we only had 2 or 3 games on TV in a season. And I have to admit, I get much more excited about attending a game now than I did back then.

I think it's something that many kids take for granted - until the chance is gone.

Plus, many of my friends who partied hard on Friday night were in no shape to go to a football game at 1PM. :)

I missed 1 for a family wedding, but that was it. Still haven't quite forgiven that family member.
