Wonder where she got the scrub cap? My daughter would love one of those. I see they don't have any N95s either. I had to get some for my daughter.

My wife treats Covid 19 patients

Apr 14, 2020, 10:20 AM [ in reply to Re: Daughter in Illinois Taking Care of Patients ]

A few weeks before she started treating infected patients, her company came out and said not to wear n95 masks because it would scare the patients and other staff. She wore them anyway and they knew it but nobody was going to say anything to her. She was installing protocol in her clinic before it was policy. Some were not happy about her strict ppe rules and no contact and screening etc. Now a few weeks later of course she was right and her boss had to eat crow.

They are supplying N95 masks now, but she let them know that she has a few extras if anybody is working around infected patients. It is dialysis patients and they treat the infected patients on a separate shift. Everyone leaves, then they clean, then they treat infected patients, then they clean again.

She would love a Clemson cap too

I have an N95 mask that I had before the COVID-19
but have never worn it until now. Ask your wife
if it can be worn more than once because it can't
be washed.

you aren't supposed to

She saves some of the old ones just in case we run out. We have about a months supply left for her. When she treats known covid patients she throws them away for sure. Back when the risk was lower she wore them a couple of days.

Thanks, I will wear mine a couple of times to the store
and then throw it away. I have some homemade ones that
I can wash after use but the n95 's are the best.
God Bless your wife, she is a true hero.

Oh wow! My daughter gets one a week from the hospital. They have plenty of surgical masks but the N95 no. and she wears a small, the blue ones, which are like a hen's tooth to find.

Does she treat Covid 19 patients?

Apr 14, 2020, 2:44 PM

If she does, then one a week is insufficient. I bought N95 masks back in February. I had about 40 she has used maybe 15 of them so far. When they treat Covid patients they get N95 masks but when they are treating regular patients they get surgical masks. In all cases they use face shield and gowns and gloves, but that is normal PPE for them.

She's an ER doctor in Raleigh/Smithfield. They have had a few cases and I think she has been exposed a couple of times but I don't think they have had many. Insufficient or not, if the hospital doesn't have them there's not much that can be done. Truth is things have dropped off so much now that their patient volumes are low enough they want the docs and PAs to start taking leave.

I googled Clemson Cloth just to see if there was any for those that sew. I found a couple of sites. Most said not available at this time but leave email and they will notify you when available. They did have some in what is called Broadcloth but I think that is a little heavier cloth but may be fine for medical caps. I just thought some of you that sew or know someone that does might be interested. SO thankful to all the medical workers. Keeping them all in my prayers.
