I shook hands with him a couple years ago and he could have very easily had me crying uncle. still a very strong man with a strong grip. Maybe just a bad back or knees from football has him sitting

Yep Danny is starting to have some issues with his knees and really with his back. Talked to him at a speaking venue couple of years ago and he's walking hunched over a good bit these days. Still a very large man.

Don't we all.
I'm lucky enough (or old enough) to remember watching the 86-89 Ford coached teams...They were tough as nails.
Having said that, we're in a new "golden age" of Clemson football, so let's enjoy what we have now. Dabo & company are doing a tremendous job, and seem to be getting better and better.

our offense and many were missing the best defense we've had in years. It reminded me of the defenses we had in the past.

Danny was fired my senior year, and I still remember the mob

of people that descended on the president's house that day yelling "Ax Max" (Lennnon).
Danny was one popular man.
It only took 20 years to turn the program around. It could be argued we might still have been a hair better overall back then (I don't remember Danny ever being blown out.). But never the less, it's good to finally see the consistency we have had the last 4 years.

CU'90-
I remember that day very well. I was 13 at the time, I vividly remember Stan Olenik reporting that Danny Ford was "out" at Clemson. Even at such a young age, it seemed surreal.
At that point in time, I remembered Clemson beating Penn State, Oklahoma, (Barry Switzer was very butt - hurt after that game) and West Virginia the following year. Major Harris had won the Heisman the year before, if I remember correctly.
Definitely great times for our football team, until that day, but even at 13, I could almost feel the football program dieing that day.
As someone mentioned earlier, it only took 20 plus years to recover.
I think the future is as bright as ever now, especially with the caliber of athletes and character we are recruiting. We are pretty well selecting whom we want now vs recruiting guys.

What I like best about that pic is Danny is wearing some old dirty blue jeans, like he walked straight off the farm and on to campus. Gotta love a down to earth, don't care what people think, hard workin man.
