On the S&C issue

I have no doubt that Batson's workouts are difficult and rigorous. This is division-1 college football at a major program. However, I believe that the physicality of this Clemson program against LSU came from the conditioning and physicality of the bowl practices leading up to the game, rather than the off-season workouts. This game did not sell me on Batson. I have seen these players workout. I have close friends on the team. While I do think Batson has a good workout plan, he does NOT stress technique, which is THE most important aspect of strength training. Players and coaches get way too concerned about who has the highest numbers that technique essentially is irrelevant. Players will not become stronger or put on weight or become physical unless technique is stressed. I do applaud Dabo and company for the job he did in practice getting this team ready. It was obvious that Clemson did a great job conditioning this team. There are great things in store for Clemson if we can continue to play at this level. Go Tigers.

by fans and media as the "perfect" tight end candidate ... big, strong, fast ... the whole package. He didn't belong on the basketball court, we needed him on the football team !!!!
That is until he put on the pads for about a week and it became quickly apparent that strength and physical conditioning is only a small part of what makes a football player "tough."
This is not a slam on Babalola, nor the people who just looked at him and assumed he could play football. It just reinforces what guys who grow up playng the game know ...
No matter how strong or conditioned you are, playing football hurts !

I just feel like Batson has become complacent. They gotta switch weight training methods and they gotta have a more competitive environment when training. That's why I think we need new blood in there.

I'm familiar enough with weight training to know they are using the wrong method.
You don't have to be close to the program to see that.

bateson does a good job and has an excellent program that has been emulated by many programs. the best s&c similates a football game mentally and physically. I always say you can't push a rope. the great s&c turn players from ropes to wheels. some players on the field are ropes and some are wheels. the chicken and egg argument is where that is changed on the field or in the weightroom. No doubt clemson was physically ready to play in the game the other night. my opinion is that came from the practice field not the weightroom. maybe that type of week to week pratice bleeds into the weightroom.

The fact that we need to focus on proper technique and have an otherwise top notch program?

The style of lifting we do not wether were physical or not is the issue. Olympic style strength programs are just bettr. It develops players way better for football. This win did not whatsoever change that fact.

Yep.
Notre Dame was wondering the desert for years, then Brian Kelly comes in, swithes to the Olympic style, and look at where they are at now.
Look at what SCar's Fitzgerald did in one offseason at PSU. Their lineman played like beasts this year.

It wasn't the Clemson players dropping like flies during the 4th quarter. If you have your doubts ? SHUT UP and show up for winter work outs like Dabo asked you to. Otherwise , you're just idiots behind keyboards with nothing to show you're qualified to make the call.

Nobodys questioning us being in shape and nobody is saying that we dont get after it and that its not intense. We are a physical team theres no doubt, but its not a made up fact that the Olympic style lifting develops players better its a fact and if we switched to this then we would be monsters up front and be about unbeatable with the scheme we have on offense

I was recruited for football by Davidson, The Citadel and Furman coming out of high school. I've been to camps. I've seen the workouts in person. The ONLY problem is fundamentals and technique.

Because we started conditioning under X new methodology?
Sorry, this is just foolish. Batson had our guys in good shape in the fourth quarter. Your argument falls way flat.

Our inablity to sustain blocking is a direct result of being in a qaud dominant weight program

The proof is in the pudding. LSU's defense was wasted because of our 100 offensive plays. Like Les said, that's like playing 5 quarters. That has nothing to do with Clemson's S&C. Playing defense is much harder on the body and mind than playing offense.
Our defense played much better than anyone expected in this game.
I don't recall our defense being dominant against FSU or Carolina. They weren't. I wish to God they had been, but they weren't, and one excellent performance against a tough opponent does not mean they are a dominant defense. And I certainly don't see them as a top tier physically dominant, feared defense. I wish to God they were, but they aren't. I keep hoping.

One does not become physically fit and have great conditioning during the Christmas break leading up to the game. Please. Come on.
Yes, no doubt more physical practices will certainly get you ready for the physicality of play but if you have not invested the time during the entire year to become stronger and more conditioned then it does not matter what you do in the month leading up to a bowl game.
I say again. Which team Monday night was the more physical, well conditioned team? Clemson. Enough said.

Its obvious we are well conditioned. It is strictly strength technique that I critiqued, not even the strength program itself. All I said was technique needs to be more of a focus.
