Anyone calling for Watson to start needs to realize 2 things

Aug 31, 2014, 1:55 PM

1. COLE STOUDT didn't lose this game. Our COACHES, their lack of aggressiveness and their overall attitude lost this game!

2. COLE will be a very, very, very good QB if given Offensive Playcalling that provides advantageous matchups...such as Leggett vs. a LB....Peake vs. undersized corners.

Our Coaching lost us the game. Mason was not a threat to beat us. The one thing we had to do to have a chance to win was contain Gurley and the Running Game. We knew going in that you can't let him get to the edge. However, if you look at our D-Line Splits, we were in a true "tight" 4 man line most of the night. Our Ends weren't spread because the coaches must've been concerned about leaving holes on the interior. However, if you spread the ends, you contain the stretch running game...you force Gurley up the middle...You rely on guys like Anthony, Steward and Boulware to make tackles. We didn't force them to do that. We let Gurley and all the other RB's take the ball, get to the outside and outrun us. We should've played with the Defense Spread, the safeties up, and made Mason beat us with deep throws. Making him look deep gives guys like Beasley an extra second to get pressure on the QB. They obviously needed that extra second. I learned all this by reading the Athlon College Football Guide back in June. Unfortunately, Dabo & Co. must not have a Books-A-Million Card!

The reason why we want Watson to start is two fold...

Aug 31, 2014, 2:04 PM

1) He is more talented and had better down field vision and touch.

2) We don't want to hear the excuse "we are inexperienced at QB" next year. If they want to label this year a rebuilding year, fine. But use it as such so we don't have the same growing pains next year.

Agreed. Watson pulled the trigger on some pretty tight throws in that first half. It makes me wonder if there was similar throws to be made from Cole a few times that just didn't get tried because Cole wants to be safer with the ball, etc.

And how about the 3 drops in the 1st half on 3 good passes?!***

They were good passes... Watson, however, threw great

Aug 31, 2014, 2:12 PM

passes were the receivers were allowed to make a play on the ball with a much more natural body position. Cole was throwing in the right area, Watson threw darts into the right location.

Stout played well I thought, has some money passes dropped. But what surprised me was how two clemson teams showed up. After halftime was awful especially the fourth quarter. Our coaching staff did a horrible job at making adjustments. Cole stout if you read this you did an awesome job every play good or bad you held your head high and played your heart out.

It is going to be a long year - we lost too many playmakers !!

The two things that lost us this game

Aug 31, 2014, 2:28 PM

1) Offensive Line play; specifically, pass pro in the second half. And run blocking to some extent as well. Just horrible overall in the second half actually.

2) Linebacker play; specifically, hesitation and the inability to stop the toss sweep to Gurley.

Why didn't we put in a defensive play to break
Gurly's leg? (Just below the knee).

Cole will be fine

Aug 31, 2014, 3:21 PM

Let Watson mature in some easier games coming up. Last night was not the time to throw him to the wolves!

We have to give him some playing time in big
games to get him ready for the prom.We should
have played Cole more last year instead of
racking up more numbers for Tajh.So run along
coot and worry about your QB.
