Clemson is irrelevant in basketball and yet we will spend...

multi-millions of dollars to rebuild Littlejohn Coliseum but won't spend big money to get a top-caliber coach to turn this program around. We flirted with greatness when Rick Barnes was here but have not been a relevant, consistent power in basketball in many years. We need some leadership from our AD to correct this problem or spend the needed funds elsewhere...like football!

We weren't going anywhere with Purnell.

He got out while the gettin' was good. Brownell just needs to recruit some point guards. That's the problem. We need someone who can run the offense.

Notch coach to match. Right now our facility & coach (I like Brownell) are about even steven.
Look at what Duke plays in but has coach & loads of tradtion & wins. Saying, a spAcking new arena ISN'T going to make the difference withOUT a game-saver HC & some miracle workers in the form of several 5* recruits.
Get over it..our best two or so coaches were Barnes & Ellis..and they're still winning.
GoTiGERS!

There has been no longer term, sustained success at Clemson. OP did about as good as you probably can do here these days.

Barnes > Purnell. That level of Clemson program is what...

I am talking about. I think Coach Barnes took us to sweet 16 in the NCAA tourney. Coach Purnell was a solid hire but not willing to stay long enough to finish the job. Of course neither was Barnes. You think that money could be the issue? Hey at least we played for the NIT title under Purnell right? The same NIT title we made fun of the coots for winning several years back.

We played very poorly against the great teams on our schedule. The pressing was fun to watch, and we always beat one or two teams that we shouldn't have each year, but we couldn't ever consistently win the big game with him.

basketball program to be successful along with football, baseball and ALL Clemson sports. My question was simple...should we not be spending the money right now on getting a proven winner in basketball to rebuild and lead the program. Get a winner in that puts fans in the seats and fills up Littlejohn. Then you spend the dough to renovate or in this case rebuild Littlejohn, IMO. I am not here to "dump" on any coach or sport as you suggest but rather question why worry about the coliseum now when we can't even average 5000 fans per game right now.

Just spend the upgrade money on a contract for him, his family loves SC, he was in a dinner club with my parents and met him over at our house a few times when he was at Winthrop. Build the interest in the progr back up then talk about rebuilding Littlejohn.
