than anywhere downtown, and that was 10-12 years ago--the last time I was there. I can't believe it's made it this long. Thinking about it, I didn't even know it was still open.
Things change; Charleston is changing. All of the area here is changing, and not necessarily for the better. I mean it's not turning into Baltimore or something, but slowly the character of everything down here is being homogenized and sanitized. I blame it half on the Ohio invasion, and the other half of regular "progress".

Holy Crap. Do they still have the salsa band in there?
If anyone is as old as me and remember when salsa was a thing for like 12 minutes in 1984...yes, they've been around that long.

and scooped it up and gave it the love it needed and re-opened with shiny new everything. place is killing it again.
i am not old enough to remember the salsa band but that does remind me of getting into Club Tango with the high school chicks. cage dancing and everything, good times.

Club Tango..wow, I had forgotten about that joint.

Wow that was some drunk times. Buncha X-ed out rednecks chasing the (4) 10's and the (80) 4's. The same dude who owned Henrys's on East Bay started that place--Leo somebody?
The best bar in Charleston was right next to it (after it moved from Cumblerland st) -- Captain Harry's Blue Marlin Bar. I loved that place. Was in there for NYE once, got drunk, went to the head to pee, and came out and the count down was over (CSB). Oddly enough, Harry was a buddy of mine's 8th grade science teacher. Harry looked like a picture of the ancient mariner--old man, white beard weird hat, and drunk. Wonder whatever happened to him? His place made it for about 2-3 years and just closed. I think it's a restaurant now.

We used to go see bands there when we were in Charleston in the VERY early 80s. Probably saw the Killer Whales there at least 3 times.

And speaking of, Cumberland's is another place I miss. They had a really strong pipeline of blues acts touring through, and Gary Erwin (Shrimp City Slim) used to host a blues open mic jam about once a month that was always a good time.

pointed out the OG cumberland's music venue to someone the other day. loved that little place.
was also reminiscing about how everyone had a $2 bourbon night
silver dollar (still around) portside (republic lounge) dengate's (some BBQ thing) salty mikes (still around)
just making the rounds for $2 bourbon and shots 2 three ways.
and then everyone freaked when they decided to close bars at 2 instead of whenever.
then they freaked about mini bottles going the way of the buffalo.
i still manage to catch a buzz downtown with all of these changes.

after it moved from over by the citadel where Moes is/was), had a good meat and 3 for lunch. I used to hit that place about once a week.
I was a little old for Portside/Silver Dollar, but went to them drunk one night anyway. I felt like somebodies dad in there.

in the same area. Second. Being around in the 80's doesn't exactly make it historic. It was a place we went every now and then when I first moved town here, but hasn't been on the radar much since.

minutes.
They're not in the same area?
Since when is Charleston a humongous metropolis?
a 2-square mile peninsula?
Just because your brain is as small as a chicken's doesn't mean Charleston is large by any stretch of the imagination.
This is why you think Clemson is such a massive school that would be ranked more than Tennessee in football if it were in the SEC.

i've grown up here and been a resident forever (minus 4 yrs at Clemson) and never been to angel oak.
i worked on the ft sumter tour boat and that was the only reason i got the tour there.
