He was in my sophomore calculus class in Martin, '87. Little guy but evidently he could bring some heat.

Barnes had crazy breaking stuff

He didn't throw that hard but he struck out a TON of guys all the way up to the bigs with his breaking stuff. Huge curve ball. He was striking out over 200 a year in the minors but couldn't quite make it work in the Majors the little bit of time he was there.

He lives in the Pendleton area. His son and my son go to school together. He's a heck of a nice guy. He coached his sons rec ball team. Coached my son on the all star team, yeah he can still throw a breaking ball.

Brian threw breaking stuff that looked like the ball fell off a table it broke so hard.
I remember him in the ACC tourneys played in Greenville. Just made batters screw themselves in the ground chasing his pitches. And he could use the whole strike zone accurately with his stuff. Set a lot of records for most strikeouts.
