Yes, let's just assume it was White Supremacists just like all of the mainstream media. Every time we hear about a disgusting attack, the first words out of liberals mouth is "white supremacists" What a joke. Of course it's the ridiculous Spooneye.
But let's use common sense and/or educated guess.
Statues are being torn down in every major city across the US. In pretty much every instance, BLM and Antifa are behind the attacks.
We have seen Ulysses S. Grant torn down by BLM and they have threatened to tear down the Emancipation statue that was paid for by FREED SLAVES.
But yes, let's turn to white supremacists. How many statues have they taken down?

2) no graffiti? Again, inconsistent with the left wing MO
3) obviously, Douglass would not reasonably be a left wing target, and he lacks the broad cultural recognition of an Abe Lincoln. So, not an appropriate target for any lefty with even the slightest cultural and historical knowledge and not an interesting enough target for the drooling masses of these rioters.
I’m not saying it was white supremicists, but I would guess right wing attack. But you never know. There are a lot of very, very stupid people feeling their oats right now in this country. Anything is possible.

I thought this was obvious: If the same person was tearing down every single statue, you'd have a point. But it's not just one person with one set of motives.
If a BLM protestor takes down a Robert E. Lee statue and a white supremacist takes down a Frederick Douglass statue, they could each be doing it for a cause.
So, no, the fact that some person to whose thoughts we are not privy has taken down a statue is not evidence of anything about that person's thoughts.

Absent proof in either direction, it would seem that you follow trends. There is only one side I’m aware of that have been tearing down statues and they’ve already indicated that they aren’t exactly history majors based on other statue choices.
So I’m not saying you’re wrong—-maybe it is an elaborate ruse by white supremacists, but that’s a far more complex and less obvious explanation than that of a mistaken identity or lack of knowledge of the subject by those who have almost exclusively been tearing down statues.

Regarding you view of the world as having "sides," please see my sig.
Some number of people vandalized a Frederick Douglass statue. Unless someone has some information beyond that, there's no basis for thinking anything about who they were or what their purpose was. A number of possibilities would explain the (lack of) evidence we have.
(P.S. The only reason I said Crunch knows they were white supremacists is because he personally knocks over statues of Black people when he isn't busy calling our previous president a ######.)

I agree with the original premise when you posted it, but there are definitely two sides of a very extremist coin that would tear down a statue, and it has nothing to do with dem or pub. I contend that “side” is correct in this usage.
