BB recruiting

Nov 17, 2015, 9:45 PM

I'm afraid BB suffers from the Tommy Bowden syndrome - "I can't get those 4 and 5 star guys here so why try." Dabo changed that in FB, BB needs a drink of his juice.

Ratings in ACC

We got a good one in Spencer but lost out in our top two targets who we were leading for in Jenkins and Bruner at one time. I think Brad needs to me more aggressive in recruiting. Schedule the official visits and tell them after the visit we want a decision with in the week, or we are moving on in different direction for target recruits. We let the target take too much time to change their mind like Bruner.

I actually think we saw a change in recruiting philosophy

Nov 17, 2015, 11:29 PM

last year with the two transfers. The thing that will change the trajectory of our recruiting is winning plain and simple. Right now the best way to bring in talent is the transfer route, which is why I think we're not listed on many high schoolers lists right now. I'd be surprised if we don't see a couple transfers added before next year. That may mean a grad transfer, juco, or players like Reed and Mitchell who have multiple years remaining.

This doesn't mean we quit recruiting HS players, just that we aren't going to take guys who may not project as ACC players just to fill a roster spot. Schools like Iowa St, San Diego St, NC St, SMU, and others have used this method to infuse talent, and have won. As a result they are now getting higher quality HS kids. None of those schools used to get high level HS kids except NC St.

In state USC has always had an advantage with in state kids as they are the "city" school and the midlands seems to produce the best talent. Out of state we grab a good HS player or two every year. But for us to keep up we have to think outside the normal recruiting box, and I think we're now doing that

So far, I like what I see with what we got ....

Yes, its VERY early ... BUT ... even Lunardi like's what he see's so far .... in the two games I've seen so far (last two) ... they are putting the ball in the basket at a really good shooting percentage ... they are stopping the other fellows from putting the ball in the basket ... and they are making (at least in one game) a very respectable percentage of their foul shot or "free throws" in today's PC parlance.

Not to mention they are playing at a much faster clip ... yes, the shot clock is shorter ... but I don't see all that lolly-gagging and playing hot potato around the key like I've seen for the last five years...

All of this is a recipe for SUCCESS.

Most people are forgetting about the crucial transfers we've gotten each of the last 2 years.
