Anybody else think Van Smith could be our Defensive POTY?

I know he had issues with taking poor angles at times last season, but the thought of him roaming the field at FS to wreak havoc with his athleticism and physicality makes me think our secondary could surprise some folks.

No, not over a Dline player or Bouleware. I think Jadar Johnson will have a big impact being a ball hawk safety. Van will do fine, but not D poty status. Maybe more breakout player.

I think it's possible that Boulware ends up being our 3rd best LB this year. Not a knock on him; rather, we have a ton of talent. Look for Dorian O'Daniel to have a huge year

With Wilkins and Boulware and Watkins and maybe Lawrence on the team ..... not likely but if he is, our D will be Dynamite!

No, there's too much talent up front... But if he is our defensive POTY, I would venture to say we'll win the NC this year. I think he'll play well, but I'm not sure he's even a top 5 player on our defense.
I think we're going to need the front 7 to create a lot of pressure and shut down the run (especially early in the year) to allow the secondary to settle in and gain confidence in themselves and each other. I do think our D will surprise some people and be just as good or better than last year.

Mentioned? I remember those exact issues with the starters and thought smith was refreshing when he did play because he seemed to NOT have those issues.

after Green went out. He was outstanding against Miami, but I thought that night in Charlotte showed that he had some things to work on.
But I tend to be overly critical, especially when I think a player has the potential to be a superstar.

With more exp that he won't make those mistakes again. He seemed real eager it make big plays, I think that was more it.

Dg i totally agree with you and with him and jadar Johnson paired together I think the level of football acumen will these two have be an upgrade from last years duo.
