I'm thinking most of you hate ..........

Jun 24, 2020, 7:23 PM

U2. I've always liked them. Ran across this so it's more about Mary J (go figure, right)

Glad I did because I would have missed 63 to 17.

Before Bono became completely self-absorbed. I know I’m pushing it.

You have a point. He is an observant and insightful person,

On the other hand, where many celebs are thoughtlessly political, he at least chooses his positions for the right reasons.

My first concert as far as going just for that. 1985. 12 years old. Under the Blood Red Sky U2. Red Hot Chili Peppers opened. I didnt appreciate the Red Hot Chili Peppers at the time. Too young. Anyway, my old sister took me. U2 was great. They are great live.

Jun 24, 2020, 7:54 PM

better than Abba or Tiny Tim I suppose.

U2 and Journey aren’t even comparable.

And the ABBA and Tiny Tim?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Well, not ABBA or Tiny Tim....

Jun 24, 2020, 8:04 PM

I like U2’s and Journey’s older stuff better.

Of the two, I’m more of a Journey fan.

ABBA? One of the best feel good songs ever. Though bars/restaurants hate it because played so much on the jukebox.

The brunette BTW.

took my son to see his first "real" concert at the U2 Joshua Tree show in Chicago in 2017. Field tickets at Soldier field, we ended up about 10 people away from the stage. Amazing experience.

they became victims of their own success and went down the pop sewer IMO. Like many other bands have. Joshua Tree was peak U2.

Joshua Tree down as good a cluster of songs as they’ve ever written, and far better than the more popular stuff on the a-side.

The Joshua tree 30th was cool because it was the first time they ever played RHMT live. Seems Bono even had trouble hitting those high notes consistently even back when he wrote it, so they just left it off set lists.

Jun 24, 2020, 11:15 PM

Better if they’d souled it up. Get that bass good and muddy, slow the tempo about 10bpm, and throw in a few BB King-esque licks.

punk/new wave movement. A solid rock and roll band with a punk ethos, they were set up to last beyond simply being a period piece. Like most bands that reach great heights of fame and mass appeal, they definitely had their self-indulgent periods that didn't move me near as much, but overall a fantastic body of work. I can't say they moved me near as much after Rattle & Hum (a career pinnacle in my opinion) and the albums got a little more hit and miss for me personally. Boy, October, and War were staples of my Clemson years...I really need to go back and groove on those early gems again.
