My first concert as far as going just for that. 1985. 12 years old. Under the Blood Red Sky U2. Red Hot Chili Peppers opened. I didnt appreciate the Red Hot Chili Peppers at the time. Too young. Anyway, my old sister took me. U2 was great. They are great live.

I like U2’s and Journey’s older stuff better.
Of the two, I’m more of a Journey fan.

they became victims of their own success and went down the pop sewer IMO. Like many other bands have. Joshua Tree was peak U2.
about the only U2 song I'll stop the radio station scan and listen to nowadays.....most others are just played out for me.

Joshua Tree down as good a cluster of songs as they’ve ever written, and far better than the more popular stuff on the a-side.
The Joshua tree 30th was cool because it was the first time they ever played RHMT live. Seems Bono even had trouble hitting those high notes consistently even back when he wrote it, so they just left it off set lists.

Better if they’d souled it up. Get that bass good and muddy, slow the tempo about 10bpm, and throw in a few BB King-esque licks.

One of the great, edgy bands to rise out of the original
Jun 25, 2020, 7:58 AM

punk/new wave movement. A solid rock and roll band with a punk ethos, they were set up to last beyond simply being a period piece. Like most bands that reach great heights of fame and mass appeal, they definitely had their self-indulgent periods that didn't move me near as much, but overall a fantastic body of work. I can't say they moved me near as much after Rattle & Hum (a career pinnacle in my opinion) and the albums got a little more hit and miss for me personally. Boy, October, and War were staples of my Clemson years...I really need to go back and groove on those early gems again.
