All In

Jun 9, 2012, 8:20 PM

whats the serious story behind this saying? Dabo was the first sports figure/coach I heard use the phrase back when he was set as the interim coach. Obviously it had been used in poker way before and made popular with the hold em tournaments on tv. But then after Dabo, Auburn took it. Then the Tambay Bay Lightning, then the Texas Rangers, then the Mexican national soccer team. I was watching Euro today and saw "Adidas is All in".

Did Dabo really start this phenomenon? Does anyone outside of Clemson realize that it was Dabo Swinney who started it? Or did Dabo himself take it from someone else?

Don't know, but Dabo was the first person I personally know of that started using it for a team. I'm sure it had been used before though.

I just remember from his first press conference in October, he used the reference saying that we were down, but not out. Everything, then could still be on the table as far as the ACC. We had a ton of talent, but everything wasn't going right. He talked about poker and said that then we were sitting with pocket 10s, which is good, but very beatable. We were going All In (i.e. all the players together and unified, which that team was broken by the WFU game) with it and hoped to see where the season would take us.

I am all in in. My wife set up a suprise meeting with Coach Swinney and the football team after my unit came home from Afghanistan. He is a great person and he really loves Clemson University. I have nothing but respect for Coach Swinney.

Plenty of coaches have used it before, Dabo didn't start it. Can't give you any specific examples off the top of my head, except that my soccer coach used to say that when I was little.

Im sure it has but Dabo started the recent craze

My HS Football coach used to say it and he certainly wasn't the first.
