there are just two very simple but hard and fast rules when it comes to Clemson's helmets.

Rule No. 1 - Do not under any circumstances ever mess with the Clemson helmets.

Rule No. 2 - Do not under any circumstances ever forget Rule No. 1.

You realize of course....that's what people said about the "paw" in the early 70's. They couldn't believe anyone would want to change the helmet.

The more things change...the more they stay the same.

Go Tigers!

Re: I've said it before and I will say it again....

Apr 29, 2015, 8:18 PM

Most people thought the Paw was original, nre snd cool. It differentiated us from all the other Tigers and all the other teams with a C on the helmet.

It also went along with raising 4 fingers for the start of the 4th quarter, which at the time, was cool and original.

Any other teams using shiny, reflective "chrome" helmets now?

with black friends I play on sports teams with.

Cause unlike you, they get how it's a joke in the context of certain situations, and don't racially broad brush everything as rascist just because I'm white.

Just the same way if they wanted to talk "country" or "red-neck" I wouldn't get on my high horse and immediately call them rascist if the context entailed it to be clearly meant as a joke.

While I like the current helmets, they are like pleated khakis...conservative, traditional. They still match everything in your closet, but they could really stand to be updated to the likes of the younger crowds (the ages of those we recruit). I VOTE YES!!! However, I would like to see a metallic white paw, instead of the chrome.

Have all worn alternates, uniforms or helmet changes, in the last few years. I don't think anyone would want us to change anything permanently but I wouldn't be against a little flash every once in a while.

If you look at the attached picture you will see the same helmet we see on the desk.

A custom company called "Green Gridiron" created the helmet to auction off. The post mentions that it is being sent over to the Valley.

I do really like the helmet, but its just a little teasing by the staff. I don't expect we will see anything like it anytime soon.

Apr 29, 2015, 2:52 PM

as billy joel said - don't go changing . . .

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I know this is a joke...but again...tradition is important.

Apr 29, 2015, 3:20 PM

Mess with the uniform as little as possible.

Many students and recent graduates do not see the value in maintaining traditions. Maybe when you're in your 50s and you're looking down at a team you don't recognize, and instead of hearing beloved Tiger Band during breaks you hear the latest flash-in-the-pan-rapper-you've-never-heard-of, and everyone is woo-hooing in the middle of your beloved fight song...you'll understand. Tradition matters.

Ironically, Dabo doesn't seem to mess around with tradition. Orange and white. You never see purple any more...doesn't seem like recruits care. You don't see anything crazy with the uniforms...doesn't seem like recruits care. You don't even see the All-Orange (like Bowden did when he was here much more frequently), because Dabo has placed the "All-Orange" back on the pedestal it belongs on.

People seem to go on and on about how we have to do whatever the best 17 year-old football player wants us to do RIGHT NOW. But Dabo clearly knows better. His program stands for something and the kids respond to that. When you get a little older (no "you" specifically...the general "you"), you start to realize that maintaining certain things through generations is a great way to keep Clemson fans connected...to each other and to the program.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I agree and disagree

Apr 29, 2015, 8:32 PM

Recruits don't care if you have a reflective helmet or not. But don't be so caught up in your ways that you can't appreciate something different sometimes.
